Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • A Michigan Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain one.
  • A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience with progressively increasing responsibility.
  • In-depth experience using AutoCAD for land development applications.
  • Working knowledge of typical computer software used for civil engineering design and management, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a project team.
  • Ability to plan one's own time and demonstrate effective time management.
  • Ability to problem-solve, complete assigned tasks efficiently, and exercise sound engineering judgment.
  • Ability to work on several projects concurrently, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, including the ability to tailor communications to specific audiences and accept and receive feedback.
  • Strong attention to detail and aptitude for identifying small errors in engineering designs.
  • Ability to perform the physical functions of the role, including occasional lifting or moving of objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with overtime as required.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare engineering analyses, designs, calculations, and reports for part or all of a project for review by a Project Manager.
  • Design grading and drainage for site improvements.
  • Design utility piping systems involving sanitary, water main, fire protection, and storm drainage.
  • Perform hydrology and hydraulic calculations for gravity and pressure piping systems and above-ground conveyances.
  • Work with landscape architects, land use planners, attorneys, owners, and facility managers on dynamic design teams.
  • Prepare project drawings, calculations, and specifications.
  • Assist with proposals and fee estimates for potential projects of limited scope and complexity.
  • Perform construction assistance tasks, including responding to Requests for Information, visiting job sites, reviewing submittals, and coordinating design revisions with the design team.
  • Develop and present project-specific or technical presentations to clients, technical organizations, and in-house staff.
  • Mentor staff engineers.
  • Prepare plan reviews and permit applications, analyze zoning ordinances, and evaluate land use.
  • Attend and participate in public meetings related to projects, including planning commission and city council meetings.
  • Stay current on legal and industry regulations.
