Requirements
- Two years of work experience instructing performing arts and/or other programs to children and youth in group settings.
- The ability to adapt to changing work environments and demands.
- The ability to maintain high standards of respect, safety, quality, and cooperation.
- Time-management skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Outstanding problem-solving and communication skills.
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
- Current First Aid and CPR Level C certification is required.
- The ability to lift 20 pounds and supply totes and stand for extended periods is required.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver performing arts programs, classes, camps, and workshops for varied audiences in an inclusive, positive, safe, and creative learning environment.
- Plan, develop, and deliver activities incorporating drama, acting, dance, vocal and instrumental music, and musical theatre.
- Apply skill-development and progression principles and arts-education approaches to maximize participant learning, appreciation, and engagement.
- Incorporate children’s and youth’s interests and support their emotional, artistic, and social development, creativity, and fundamental movement-skill progression.
- Incorporate relevant adult interests and opportunities for skill development and self-expression.
- Develop age-appropriate senior programs that enhance well-being, improve quality of life, and combat isolation.
- Understand curriculum connections, teacher objectives, and desired outcomes for school groups to support educational success.
- Prepare materials and plans for each program, workshop, and camp.
- Ensure program spaces are prepared and safe and that materials and equipment are used according to County occupational health and safety guidelines.
- Provide guest service to program participants and the community.
- Collaborate and interact positively within a team environment.
- Manage forms, documents, and communications with class participants at the time of class.
- Communicate questions, issues, and concerns to the Recreation Programmer – Performing Arts.
- Assist with program documentation, administration, and site preparation.
- Provide safe supervision to participants and ensure health and safety regulations are followed.
- Coordinate and deliver programs, seasonal camps, workshops, and activities in a lead role.
- Provide administrative support for programs, seasonal camps, and workshops, including waivers, pickup/drop-off forms, camp evaluations, and parent communications.
Desired Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in performing arts, education, or equivalent experience.
