About the Position
The Voter Registration Specialist provides voter registration services to eligible voters who maintain residency in Maricopa County. This position focuses on the processing of voter registration applications including additions, changes, cancelations, and other list maintenance duties related to the Maricopa County voter registration rolls. In addition, this position will assist with a variety of other election related duties such as petition certifications, provisional ballot processing, and signature verifications.

We Require
Two years of responsible clerical and/or administrative experience
High School Diploma or GED Certificate
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered in substitution for the minimum qualifications
We Also Value
One year of experience performing specialized clerical duties in an Elections office environment
Six months of experience performing data entry
Job Contributions
Utilize computer to access voter registration files for inputting and proofing voter registration records into the voter registration database system which includes the statewide Access Voter Information Database (AVID); process voter registration forms to determine voter eligibility; update and cancel voter registrations per Arizona Revised Statutes, Title16
Maintain and resolve MVD registrations and suspense records in accordance with state law. Research and process voter registration records for returned/undeliverable mail; generate, prepare, and send correspondence to voters, including voter registration cards and other voter notification letters
Operate mailing equipment to fold and insert voter registration correspondence. Research and verify signatures for recall, initiative, referendum, and nomination petitions. Perform research and signature verification of jurisdictional and countywide Provisional Ballots to determine if they should be verified and counted
Process, verify, and distribute computer data on various reports in compliance with current office policy and in accordance with state law. Prepare, scan, and index Voter Registration Forms, petitions, and affidavits to create electronic images for voter records in the Voter Registration System. Analyze scanned documents to ensure accuracy and clarity
Transfer all original documents to the warehouse for storage in accordance with Arizona State Library, Archives, and Public Records retention and destruction schedules
Answer telephone inquiries from voters and assist the public with voter registration and voting information. Provide customer service support at the front counter lobby. Assist with incoming and outgoing mail sorting for the division
Working Conditions
Must be registered or eligible to register to vote
Must pass applicable background screening.
Must attend and successfully pass the next scheduled Secretary of State Election Officer Course, attend a forensic handwriting analysis training, and continue to maintain an Arizona Certified Election Official certification
Extensive mandatory overtime during the Primary/General Elections
Ability to lift floor to shoulder and shoulder to waist a minimum of 20 lbs.; ability to carry or push/pull a minimum of 20 lbs. for a distance of 50 feet
