As a Regional Safety Specialist, you will be an integral resource to our Forestry department with a devotion to Safety. You will be dedicated to building and maintaining safety initiatives on behalf of our MEC family Milhouse Forestry, reporting directly into the MEC Safety Manager.
On a day-to-day basis, you will conduct regular job site inspections and/or Behavior Based Observations and manage the data, input and distribution of reports gained from inspections/observations as necessary. As a Safety Lead, you will enforce policies, procedures and the overall safety compliance for Milhouse Forestry in partnership with leadership.
You will be key to the incident investigation process, implementing and maintaining regular training sessions and ensuring certifications are kept up to date (first aid etc.) and assist in the management of claims.
What will you do:
- Observing and correcting unsafe acts and at risk behavior.
- Evaluating General Foreperson knowledge of safety training programs, and supervisory skills.
- Evaluation of Crew Foreperson knowledge of their safety training responsibilities.
- Observe and report on proper work techniques in accordance with the Milhouse Forestry Policies and Procedures
- Review reports, assure that appropriate documentation is complete, and filed.
- Assure injuries are properly classified according to OSHA rules.
- Uniformity and implementation of the region disciplinary policy.
- Screen applicants for hiring and conduct Pre-employment drug testing, New employee orientations and background checks.
- Establish a working relationship with local physicians.
- Contact doctors with job descriptions for modified duty.
- Work with Risk Management Department to question reserves, return to work status on current claims, surveillance, etc.
- Inform and communicate with your Corporate Safety Manager on weekly activities, questions, concerns, problem areas, etc.
- Advise Manager on trends within his / her region, such that they can take appropriate action.
- Consult with the Manager to assist him / her in the establishment and implementation of regional safety goals.
- Provide safety coverage on emergency response work when requested by corporate or the regional manager.
What are we looking for:
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Comfortable dealing with and resolving confrontation and/or sensitive situations
- Highly organized, self-motivated with a passion for continued learning within the safety field
Your background:
- Experience within the Arboriculture industry is advantageous
- Must have a minimum of 7 years of experience as a General Foreperson, Regional Safety Superintendent, and Safety Supervisor or as a Management Lead in the Safety Industry.
- CPR and First Aid certified
- Able to obtain the ISA certification for a certified arborist within 120 days and the Utility Specialist certification within 365 days.
- B class CDL with med card
