Requirements
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Oregon.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Able to read, write legibly, and converse effectively in the English language.

Responsibilities
  • Apply the nursing process within the Registered Nurse scope of practice defined by the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
  • Assess patients, including physical, psychosocial, learning, age- and culture-related, and discharge-planning needs.
  • Establish nursing diagnoses based on assessment results in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Plan care according to identified diagnoses and patient needs, and update the plan of care as appropriate.
  • Implement individualized care based on the nursing care plan and the nurse’s role with the patient.
  • Assist with activities of daily living, including fall-risk management and safe patient handling.
  • Administer medications.
  • Perform skin assessments and wound care.
  • Provide pain management.
  • Operate and manipulate biomedical and patient-care equipment, including infusion pumps, patient-transfer equipment, cardiopulmonary monitors, invasive catheters and drains, thermoregulation devices, measurement devices, medication-dispensing cabinets, and external therapeutic devices.
  • Assist physicians and other licensed independent practitioners with invasive and non-invasive procedures.
  • Teach patients and their families about illness, medical tests, medications, general healthcare, illness and disease prevention, and wellness promotion.
  • Assign, supervise, and direct unlicensed assistive personnel to ensure optimum patient care.
  • Coordinate and facilitate overall care with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Document patient assessments, interventions, care, and teaching in the electronic medical record and on paper when necessary.
  • Evaluate care provided and communicate patient status and care results to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Teach patients and significant others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
