Requirements
  • A post-secondary diploma in Administration, Business Administration, Civil Engineering, Indigenous Studies, or a related field of study.
  • At least two years of related work experience.
  • Willingness and eligibility to enroll in the two-year Reserve Land & Environment Management Program at the University of Saskatchewan, including attendance three times a year for the two-year program.
  • A post-secondary degree in Administration, Business Administration, Indigenous Studies, or a related field of study is preferred.
  • A current original Criminal Reference Check, with no convictions relating to fraud, drugs, assault, or theft.
  • Applicants must submit a cover letter, resume, three current references, and education certifications.
  • Preference will be given to Anishinabek people.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with general duties relating to the management of lands as required by Chief and Council.
  • Perform work in accordance with applicable M’Chigeeng First Nation Codes, the Lands Management Manual Guidelines, the Personnel Policy, and other laws pertinent to lands management.
  • Organize workflow and priorities by developing, implementing, and monitoring annual work plans.
  • Confirm preliminary survey-approved lot plans and issue approval letters on behalf of M’Chigeeng as requested.
  • Prepare documents for transfers of lands or interests between First Nation members.
  • Verify and search land registry records to determine the accuracy of land-entitlement status.
  • Issue letters for band membership confirming land transfers and tax exemptions.
  • Submit required documents and monitor related processes.
  • Maintain the M’Chigeeng First Nation Land Registry and cottage leases.
  • Prepare and submit annual applications for Reserve Land & Environment Management Program funding.
  • Provide monthly activity reports to Council and the Registrar and quarterly newsletters to update the community.
  • Assist band members by providing information about wills and estates as they pertain to land ownership.
  • Prepare presentations and educate membership at community meetings as required.
  • Research and prepare funding proposals for additional programming needs.
  • Maintain accurate and secure band-lands file information for confidential safekeeping.
  • Maintain hard-copy and electronic file records and the records-management database as necessary.
  • Maintain documentation of M’Chigeeng First Nation Treaty Rights, including hunting and fishing rights, for review purposes.
  • Ensure current and new M’Chigeeng First Nation land claims and specific claims are properly filed and monitored.
  • Maintain the Residency By-Law and provide information regarding the Matrimonial Real Property Federal Provisional Rules/Law.
  • Review and monitor sites in M’Chigeeng for environmental harm.
  • Keep abreast of water legislation and water governance.
  • Review and respond to Environmental Assessment documents and file them accordingly.
  • Ensure Indigenous Traditional Knowledge is utilized and kept up to date.
  • Keep abreast of and report on activities occurring in traditional territory.
  • Perform duties related to mining, logging, water, and other activities pertaining to natural resources.
  • Review and finalize the Land Code for ratification pursuant to the First Nations Land Management Framework Individual Agreement between Canada and M’Chigeeng First Nation.
  • Work with Information Technology to maintain and input updated lands and codes information on the M’Chigeeng First Nation website.
  • Establish and implement consultations for projects that may impact M’Chigeeng lands and traditional territory.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least five years of direct work experience.
  • Two-year certification in the Reserve Land & Environment Management Program at the University of Saskatchewan.
