Responsibilities
  • Direct day to day activities specific to safe transport of the patient population and provides supervision to support staff under the direction of the Manager.
  • Under the direction of an RN, uses and practices basic data collection, participates in planning and executes interventions for patients requiring nursing support in the Centralized Patient Transport department.
  • Provides individualized nursing care to patients during transport.
  • Acts as a clinical resource for the department.
  • Supports the Rapid Resource Team (RRT) when utilized in the department.
  • Arrhythmia Interpretation: Interprets EKG in seven and four leads per competency (EKG Rhythms I & II). Identifies changes and trends in cardiac rhythms per standards. Communicates changes and trends in cardiac rhythms to other staff per standards. Identifies arrhythmias necessary for the nurse to download into electronic documentation systems to maintain an accurate rhythm history in the electronic record.
  • Communication and teamwork: Communicates and coordinates with other health care team members to facilitate the safe transport of patients. Anticipates and problem solves issues with related ancillary and nursing units. Assists with assigned departments needs as necessary (performing various roles, duties and functions) to maintain high level of quality services. Facilitates inter-departmental cooperation and teamwork. Actively and positively strives to implement departmental goals and support changes.
  • Demonstrates initiative: Assures daily staffing levels are appropriate for workload and quality patient care needs. Supervision of day to day activities of transport personnel to ensure efficient staff productivity. Ensures that patient flow within the department is constant and organized. Problem solves to promote positive relationships with internal and external customers. Facilitates referring physician requests. Ensures adequate inventory and equipment maintenance in the department. Maintains professional and positive atmosphere in the department. Ensures adherence to departmental policy, Procedure and Guidelines (i.e., dress code, radiation safety, standard precautions).
  • Human resource management: Timely completion of staff schedules. Provides input to manager/supervisor on hiring and promotion decisions, corrective action, coaching and counseling. Ensures completion of performance appraisals and competencies (new hire and annual/ongoing). Ensures lunch and break relief is provided to all staff. Communicates pertinent issues to the manager/supervisor on a timely basis. Supports development of staff. Acts as a resource to staff and physicians.
  • Safety: Effectively provides safe and effective transports of moderately unstable and stable patients utilizing correct mode of travel. Complies with all mobility requirements and ensures that equipment is available, stored properly, and cleaned regularly. Demonstrates the ability to transfer and transport patients, with assistance, with complex clinical support equipment safely, maintains the integrity of intravenous lines, suction devices, feeding tubes, etc. Takes action in life threatening situations and initiates code Blue or RRT response as appropriate.
  • Technical skills: Collects assessment data (using observation, palpation and auscultation including age/cultural specific considerations). Documents data. Demonstrates technical expertise and competency within scope of practice, acts as a clinical resource for the department. Provides individualized nursing care during patient transport for patients requiring LVN transport. Collaborates and/or refers practices outside of scope to RN.
  • Transport: Correctly utilizes the transport tracking system for: Transporting patients and items - Tracking and progressing jobs; Accepting jobs limited job rejections; Delay and cancellation of jobs; Uses mini tasks and task assistance when available; Correctly identifies patients by using two patient identifiers.
Desired Qualifications
  • 2 Years Clinical experience as an LVN
  • ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - PREFERRED

Sharp Rees-Stealy opens 75,000 sq ft medical centre in Chula Vista with 375-space car park

PMB, a healthcare real estate developer, has completed a 75,000-square-foot medical outpatient building for Sharp Rees-Stealy in Chula Vista, California. The three-storey facility consolidates services from two existing sites, offering expanded primary, urgent, specialty and rehabilitation care. Located at Chula Vista Center Mall on H Street, the building features imaging services, laboratory facilities, a pharmacy, and multiple specialty departments including cardiology, neurology and sports medicine. A 127,000-square-foot parking structure with 375 spaces connects to the medical centre via a second-floor pedestrian bridge. The project continues PMB's partnership with Sharp HealthCare dating back to the 1970s. HGW served as architect, with Pacific Building Group as general contractor. PMB has developed over 130 healthcare facilities totalling approximately 6.5 million square feet.
