Newsweek is looking for a highly motivated and strategic Director of Video Content and Distribution to lead the creation, distribution, and monetization of video content across multiple platforms. It’s an exciting time to be part of Newsweek as we grow our video efforts across our website, social media, and original series. This person will shape an evolving video strategy that leads to audience growth, retention and new revenue streams.
This role is perfect for someone with a strong background in video strategy for a digital news publisher, excellent news and editorial judgment, and has a proven record of producing, overseeing and distributing video content in the digital media space.
This person will partner with the core newsroom as well as our sales team for ideas on how to creatively grow the size, engagement and revenue potential of our diverse video content.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a video content strategy that aligns with the company’s overall brand, audience growth objectives, and business goals. Lead and mentor.
- Oversee the end-to-end production of high-quality video content, including original video series, ensuring it meets brand standards and is optimized for each platform.
- Lead the distribution of video content across all digital platforms, including YouTube, social media, websites, OTT services, and third-party partnerships.
- Manage the monetization of video content through a variety of revenue streams, including monetization on social platforms, advertising, branded content, sponsorships, subscriptions, syndication, and licensing.
- Collaborate with sales, marketing, audience, and business development teams to create and package revenue-generating opportunities around video content.
- Manage the daily operations of Newsweek’s YouTube channel, ensuring content is regularly updated and optimized for search visibility, user experience, platform algorithms and overall branding.
- Analyze performance data to identify opportunities to optimize content and distribution strategies for greater reach, engagement, and monetization.
- Manage video production budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure the efficient delivery of projects.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure video content aligns with broader company goals and resonates with target audiences.
- Identify and explore new formats and technologies (e.g., vertical video, interactive video, subscription-based video) to increase engagement, retention and revenue potential.
- Any other reasonable duties to meet the needs of the business.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in managing video production, content strategy, or digital distribution in a media organization
- Strong knowledge of digital video platforms, including YouTube, social media, OTT services, and other content distribution channels.
- Excellent editorial news judgement and storytelling skills with the ability to create engaging content for the right audience at the right time
- Expert hands-on experience with the full video production: pre-production (coordinating shoots, budget, writing scripts, etc.); production (filming); post-production (editing, coloring, exporting).
- Familiarity with video monetization strategies, including advertising, branded content, and sponsorship models.
- Experience developing new video series ideas, especially for YouTube and potential sponsorships
- Oversee budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation for video projects, ensuring efficient use of time and resources.
- Strong analytical skills and experience using data to drive content strategy and optimize video performance.
- Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills, with the ability to work across cross-functional teams and multiple projects
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Must be flexible and adaptable; a problem solver; conduct A/B testing
- Must be willing to leverage AI and other emerging tools in creative tasks to automate, generate and/or produce
Salary range: $90,000 - $110,000
