  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Six months of related experience and/or training is required.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens throughout employment.
  • Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
  • Pass pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and competence regarding the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Provide customer service using organizational and planning skills.
  • Maintain personal hygiene standards.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining emotional control and professional composure.
  • Maintain the computer literacy required for the position.
  • Distinguish small details and markings near the observer.
  • Work effectively both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team without intensive supervision.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Compass Connections policies and procedures.
  • Complete annual influenza vaccination or obtain an approved medical or religious exemption.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
  • First aid, CPR, and emergency behavior intervention certifications are required.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain sanitary conditions in work and food-service areas in accordance with licensing and policy requirements.
  • Operate kitchen equipment and report malfunctioning equipment immediately.
  • Produce standard food products by accurately weighing and measuring ingredients.
  • Maintain knowledge of materials and equipment used in food preparation and cooking.
  • Implement safety protocols, including evacuating with children and staff during emergencies.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary or requested by the position supervisor.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding the service population and program operations.
  • Follow professional and ethical standards, including respecting agency staff, children, and community members and complying with the dress code.
  • Maintain supply and equipment inventory.
  • Prepare food using approved menus and recipes in accordance with agency policies, procedures, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Compile and deliver accurate and timely United States Department of Agriculture and National School Lunch Program meal-service records.
  • Report unsafe conditions in kitchen and dining areas to supervisory staff and suggest solutions to hazards.
  • Frequently traverse kitchen and dining areas.
  • Frequently move food and cooking equipment weighing up to 25 pounds in kitchen and dining areas.
Desired Qualifications
  • A two-year Associate degree from an accredited program or institution, or two or more years of college-level coursework.
  • Two or more years of related experience and/or training.

Compass Connections is a nonprofit provider of community-based services for children, young people, and families. Programs include foster care, residential care, family preservation, behavioral health, and support for unaccompanied children. Teams work with public agencies and caregivers to provide safe, stable, and individualized services. Compass works in child welfare and human services, responding to safety, trauma, development, family relationships, and regulatory requirements through residential settings, foster networks, community programs, and public-agency partnerships.
