Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience in a client-facing advisory role navigating complex business, legal, and/or financial decisions, such as corporate finance, corporate development, valuation, wealth management, financial services, management consulting, or paralegal work focused on corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions for small and mid-sized businesses, and/or trust and estate law.
  • Strong attention to detail when handling complex legal and tax information and distilling its implications for different audiences.
  • Advanced financial modeling skills, including building and modifying integrated operating, cash flow, financing, and scenario models.
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance principles, including cash flow forecasting, debt financing, capital structure, valuation, and financial statement analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including experience building dynamic financial models.
  • Ability to translate complex financial analyses into practical recommendations for business owners and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to build authentic and trusted relationships with small business owners, senior leaders, and workers across the United States.
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills, including managing multiple stakeholders, timelines, and workstreams simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including communicating complex legal, corporate governance, and financial topics to audiences unfamiliar with technical language.
  • Adaptability and willingness to work on a small team, take on varied tasks, solve complex problems, and improve processes.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, remote environment.
  • Proactive communication style, including managing upward and keeping internal and external stakeholders aligned on progress, risks, and next steps.

Responsibilities
  • Guide business owners through selling their businesses to employees by analyzing opportunities and risks, sale proceeds, estate impact, tax outcomes, decision-making and governance, long-term company stability, and employee benefits alongside corporate counsel where relevant.
  • Develop and maintain financial models evaluating transaction structures, operating forecasts, financing alternatives, cash flow generation, debt repayment capacity, and scenario analyses.
  • Translate complex financial, legal, estate, and tax information into language clients can understand.
  • Collaborate with and project manage trust, estate, and corporate attorneys to integrate client goals into transaction legal documentation.
  • Collaborate with clients’ accounting and tax professionals to provide actionable guidance on employee ownership sales and post-sale tax outcomes.
  • Facilitate employee engagement meetings explaining the impact of employee ownership sales.
  • Prepare decision-oriented client deliverables, including financial models, scenario analyses, and recommendations synthesizing goals, risks, tradeoffs, and transaction and governance terms.
  • Build long-term, trusted client relationships.
  • Capture and share client learnings across the organization and pursue individual learning and development with company support.
Desired Qualifications
  • Education in business, finance, entrepreneurship, public policy, sustainability, or a related program.
  • Experience developing multi-year operating forecasts, cash flow projections, financing models, or transaction analyses for privately held businesses.
  • First-hand personal or professional experience understanding the decisions business owners face when transitioning out of company ownership.
  • Experience building scalable systems and processes in an early-stage, entrepreneurial environment.
