Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW), or Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) with at least 5 years of relevant experience in the field.
  • Registered Social Worker (RSW) in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
  • Currently a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), or willing and eligible to become registered upon hire.
  • Certified Financial Counsellor under Canadian Association of Financial Counsellors (CAFE) is an asset.
Responsibilities
  • Keep current on financial regulations, benefits, entitlements, and community resources relevant to people living on a low income in Toronto, including income security, benefits access, debt and credit management, budgeting, banking, saving, and retirement planning.
  • Conduct research on new or changing benefits, policies, and resources, and develop and share relevant updates with the FE team.
  • As needed, develop new teaching tools, reference sheets, and presentation materials to share with the FE team.
  • Use a client-centered and trauma-informed approach to address clients’ presenting financial concerns.
  • Develop and implement service plans with clients based on clients’ goals.
  • Undertake financial benefits eligibility assessments with clients.
  • Help clients apply for government benefits and income supports.
  • Problem solve and advocate for clients who have been denied government benefits and income supports.
  • Prepare income tax returns and T1 adjustments.
  • Keep current about the range of services available at WoodGreen and in other agencies.
  • Provide clients with appropriate referrals to other resources (WoodGreen or external) to address additional needs as appropriate.
  • Maintain a client caseload as assigned by program manager.
  • Maintain records and keep up-to-date and accurate case notes on all clients.
  • Serve as the primary internal practice resource for frontline social workers and FE Social Work staff who require consultation on challenging, unusual, or high-complexity cases.
  • Act as the first line of escalation for complex or highly challenging client situations that require a higher level of expertise, advanced problem-solving, or systems knowledge.
  • Develop, update, and deliver Financial Literacy and Skill-Building Workshops to both vulnerable client groups and for front line social service professionals.
  • Provide consults on financial topics to other WoodGreen and external social service professionals.
  • Support onboarding and training of new FE Social Work staff and contribute to the upskilling and ongoing development of existing team members.
  • Support the onboarding, orientation, training, and practice development of social work and/or social service worker students.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and knowledge-sharing to FE Social Workers and other frontline staff.
  • Where necessary, provide support on developmental components of Tax Clinic, including participating in meetings, providing input on design of service, assisting with development and delivery of volunteer training. On occasion, this role may also provide direct tax shift coverage during periods of short staffing within the tax team.
  • Support the recruiting, training, overseeing, and supporting volunteers and students, as assigned.
  • Responsible for specific program development activities and special projects, as assigned by the Operations Manager (e.g., development of the Family Finance Clinic).
  • Participate in strategic program planning and development activities, both within the Financial Empowerment program and with the larger Community Programs Unit.
  • Support the administration of evaluation tools and the collection of statistical data required for the accountability of the program.
  • Participate in team and unit meetings regularly, and promote the healthy functioning of the team and unit. Lead meetings where the Operations Manager is not able to attend, as requested.
  • Responsible for representing the program on internal staff committees as directed by program manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by program manager.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience providing income support case work and/or financial problem solving to clients.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of provincial and federal income supports and benefits, Canadian income tax system, Canadian pension programs, banking system, credit and debt management systems as they relate to clients living on a low income.
  • Sensitivity to the needs and challenges faced by clients, and a desire to serve the community.
  • Experience working from a client-centered, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive framework.
  • Demonstrated initiative and innovation in identifying areas for service improvement.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take initiative to follow tasks and projects through to completion.
  • Demonstrated project management, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability within a team setting, including mentorship skills, conflict resolution, consultation, and problem-solving.
  • Experience onboarding, training, mentoring, and supporting staff and/or students with varied skill sets.
  • Proven ability to carry out training and develop new workshops for clients and/or staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Comfortable providing services in the field using mobile technology (laptop, cell phone, cloud-based software).
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Comfortable working in an open office environment.
  • Flexible with shift scheduling, including some evening and weekend shifts.

Deep Retrofit diary: tower transformation from 1967 to net zero. I know The Atmospheric Fund say this every year, but... The Atmospheric Fund is well underway with its most ambitious retrofit project to date! TAF is working with partners including WoodGreen, ERA Architects, Critical Path, and Penalta Group to complete a net zero retrofit at 444 Logan Ave. With 160 suites of seniors' housing, a key focus of the project has been to minimize resident disruption and improve comfort, resilience, and building performance. I'm excited to provide some updates on the work done so far, and what The Atmospheric Fund is looking forward to for the rest of the project. What's really stood out for me so far hasn't been the innovative technologies or the speed of progress - it's the level of collaboration, care, and respect from everyone involved. There is a strong sense of community and shared purpose. The construction team knows all the details of the project, and how their work is contributing to the end goals. Building staff have remained engaged throughout the process, taking time to understand the changes and how they affect the community. The residents are curious and optimistic - and while no one loves construction, disruptions have been minimized with regular communication. The Atmospheric Fund saw this in action in June, when the heat pumps and ERVs were being lifted via crane to the top of the 21-storey building. The resident coordinator helped to manage traffic in and out of the driveway, while juggling lunch delivery and addressing tenant needs. Several residents chose to sit outside to catch all the action, and had their questions answered by the building staff and construction crew. Commitments by the whole project team to communication, transparency, and collaboration at every stage has helped build trust and foster meaningful partnerships. Since construction started in late 2025, the team has already completed some of the most intensive physical and planning stages of work: Improving the building envelope: * The previous building cladding has been removed, and new prefabricated overcladding panels from Canadian manufacturer Triumph are being installed as The Atmospheric Fund speak. This will make the building more airtight, improving energy efficiency and comfort. * Balconies are typically a big source of heat loss in buildings. Multiple layers of thermal barrier paint have been applied, aiming to prevent heat loss from thermal bridging. Electrifying the building: * Heat pumps, hot water tanks, buffer tanks, and ERVs have all been delivered to site! The old generator was removed from the roof the same day that the heat pumps and ERVs were installed. By the end of the project, residents will enjoy more comfortable units and the added benefit of cooling. * Piping for the heat pumps has been installed on the exterior of the building. Since residents are staying in their suites during construction, this has helped to minimize indoor disruption. In the coming months, prefabricated panel installation continues, including panels on the south side of the building with integrated solar cladding. The Atmospheric Fund is bringing in a new transformer and completing HVAC connections including the fresh air intake dampers in each unit. TAF and its partners will keep you in the loop. Its Retrofit Accelerator was able to partner on this groundbreaking project thanks to the Government of Canada's Deep Retrofit Accelerator Initiative, but with strong demand for retrofit services, The Atmospheric Fund need to see the program recapitalized. With $2 billion in projects lined up across the country's Accelerators, The Atmospheric Fund hope that 444 Logan will be just one of many retrofitted net zero housing projects across Canada. TAF has been involved with project planning, design workshops, project planning and design review. Its funding has supported energy modelling and investigative studies, and The Atmospheric Fund is also monitoring Indoor Environmental Quality in a number of suites during and post-construction.
