Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or Grandfathered from BSN if hired prior to 12/2019
  • One year acute inpatient hospital experience as Registered Nurse
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read and write English proficiently
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions and ability to understand, follow and successfully perform duties, including whole blood collection, and apheresis procedures, in accordance with administrative and clinical policies, regulations and procedures
  • Committed to excellence in patient care and customer service
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision
  • Registered Nurse must be licensed by the California Board of Registered Nursing
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association
  • Fire Life Safety Training from Los Angeles City (if not on hire, must obtain within 30 days and maintained by renewal before expiration; required within LA City only)
Responsibilities
  • Assesses patients to determine actual or potential problems
  • Assists in the formulation of plan of care with physician and other health care professionals
  • Facilitates continuity of care for patients to assure transition during hospital stay and between hospital, home, and ambulatory care setting
  • Acts as patient and family advocate using the nursing process and problem-solving techniques
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care
  • Provides direct and indirect patient care services, including, but not limited to, the administration of medications, and implementation of diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures as ordered by the physician
  • Provides care appropriate to the age of the patient (adolescent, adult, elderly); demonstrates knowledge of growth and development
  • Provides patient and family education based on assessed needs regarding diagnosis, treatments, protocols, and diagnostic testing
  • Participates in the development of patient education materials
  • Directs patients to available internal and external resources (e.g., support groups, social services, patient education library, American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute, etc.)
  • Promotes positive interpersonal relations and demonstrates effective communication methods
  • Maintains professional code of ethics and scope of practice by adhering to national, institutional and/or departmental standards, policies, and procedures
  • Prioritizes assignments for timely completion of work
  • Floats as needed to other patient care areas
  • Follows departmental procedures to capture patient care charges for supplies and procedures and controls the utilization of patient care supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner
  • Arrives to work and meetings on time
  • Works carefully to prevent equipment breakage and loss
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications
  • 1 year experience in radiation oncology department
  • 2 years experience in a comparable unit immediately prior to application strongly preferred
