The American Red Cross provides emergency relief and humanitarian aid by mobilizing volunteers, donors, and staff to respond to disasters and everyday needs. Its main activities include collecting and supplying blood, running disaster response operations, offering life-saving training (such as CPR and first aid), supporting military families, and promoting preparedness in communities. The organization works by coordinating volunteers, managing blood banks and donation drives, deploying resources during emergencies, and teaching people essential emergency skills. What sets it apart from many other aid groups is its nationwide network and established infrastructure that combines disaster response, blood services, and preparedness programs under one umbrella, backed by a steady flow of donations and volunteers. The goal is to prevent and relieve human suffering by being ready to help at any time, at home and around the world.

Seminole County Firefighter and former UCF football player Chris Martin honored by Red Cross.

Seminole County Firefighter and former UCF football player Chris Martin honored by Red Cross. A decade after the tragic loss of his young son, Seminole County Firefighter/Paramedic Chris Martin was recognized for transforming personal heartbreak into a mission that is helping save lives. The American Red Cross Central Florida Coast Chapter recently honored Martin with a First Responder Hero Award during its 2nd Annual Great Orlando Salute to Heroes Breakfast, recognizing his dedication to pediatric drowning prevention and public safety education. Martin, a former University of Central Florida football player who also spent time in the NFL, received the award for his leadership in raising awareness about water safety and his efforts to prevent child drownings throughout Seminole County. His advocacy began following the drowning death of his son, Gunner Martin, on April 6, 2016. Rather than allowing tragedy to define his family's future, Martin and his wife, Christina, chose to channel their grief into action. Their efforts led to the creation of the Gunner Martin Foundation, which has become a driving force behind local drowning prevention programs and safety education initiatives. In 2022, Martin took his commitment to protecting others a step further by joining the Seminole County Fire Department. He recently earned his paramedic certification and now responds to emergencies throughout the community, including drowning-related incidents where lives have been saved. County leaders said his impact extends far beyond emergency response. Through partnerships with the fire department, the Martin family has helped fund and distribute free door alarms designed to alert families when children access pool areas. They have also worked to educate residents about multiple layers of water safety protection and helped secure a national drowning prevention grant that expanded local outreach efforts. "Protecting lives through prevention and education is a critical part of the Seminole County Fire Department's mission," said Seminole County Commission Chairman Andria Herr in a press statement. "Chris Martin's leadership and advocacy for drowning prevention have helped strengthen awareness throughout our community and support efforts to keep families safe." Seminole County Fire Chief Matt Kinley praised Martin's perseverance and dedication, noting that the firefighter has turned an unimaginable loss into a source of hope for other families. "The Martin family has endured tremendous pain and loss, yet Chris continues to turn that tragedy into purpose by helping protect others," said Kinley. "In my opinion, he is the definition of bravery and a tremendous asset to our department and community." The Red Cross award is the latest recognition for Martin's public service. He has previously received Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' Florida Heroes Award as well as the Children's Safety Village First Responder Award for Seminole County. For Martin, however, the work remains focused on a simple goal to prevent another family from experiencing the loss that changed his life ten years ago. As summer arrives and families spend more time around pools and waterways, local officials hope Martin's story serves as a reminder that education and safety measures can make a life-saving difference. American Red Cross, Neighborhood Michigan Ford Dealers partner to host Roll Up & Give blood drives throughout the summer.

American Red Cross, Neighborhood Michigan Ford Dealers partner to host Roll Up & Give blood drives throughout the summer. The American Red Cross and Neighborhood Michigan Ford Dealers are partnering to host a series of blood drives at dealership sites across Michigan June 4 - July 31 and keep the blood supply stable for patients in need of vital care. The blood drives are part of the Neighborhood Michigan Ford Dealers Roll Up & Give campaign to engage their communities in meaningful, lifesaving ways. It's also an extension of Ford Motor Company's Building Together philanthropic initiative to support the critical work of four national nonprofit organizations, including the Red Cross. After a successful pilot in 2025, the Neighborhood Michigan Ford Dealers is expanding their campaign to host blood drives at more than 30 dealership locations in the Flint/Saginaw area, Mid-Michigan area, Northern Michigan, Southwest Michigan and West Michigan. Last year, 363 units of blood were donated and 232 donors gave blood for the first time at blood drives held at 13 participating dealerships. "We are excited to build on the momentum created by the Neighborhood Michigan Ford Dealers Roll Up & Give campaign," said Kelly King, chief executive officer of the Red Cross Michigan Region. "The need for blood is constant and these blood drives will help ensure patients have access to lifesaving blood when they need it." Having blood products immediately available is a key part of summer safety. And making and keeping donation appointments now is critical to ensuring blood products are available for all patients - including those in trauma situations that may require several lifesaving transfusions - in the weeks to come. "The growth in dealer participation speaks volumes about the power of collaboration and shared purpose," said a Neighborhood Michigan Ford Dealers spokesperson. "The commitment from our dealers shows how local dealers can come together to make a measurable difference in their communities." Donors of all blood types are needed. Maintaining a reliable blood supply is essential for all patients, especially those with chronic and acute conditions such as sickle cell disease and cancer. Type O negative is the universal blood type and can be transfused to anyone who needs blood. A blood donation appointment takes about one hour. The donation itself is only 8-10 minutes. To schedule an appointment, download the 'Blood Donor' American Red Cross app, visit RedCrossBlood.org, or call 1-800-RED CROSS. Walk-ins will be taken as the schedule allows. Make an appointment to secure your spot. The CMA CGM Foundation renews its annual commitment to American Red Cross disaster relief.

The CMA CGM Foundation renews its annual commitment to American Red Cross disaster relief. May 08, 2026 In the face of increasing severe weather events, donation and logistical support help ensure the capacity to respond immediately May 8, 2026 - On World Red Cross Red Crescent Day, the CMA CGM Foundation has renewed its commitment to the American Red Cross to help people affected by disasters big and small across the country, whenever and wherever they occur. This renewed partnership reflects the Foundation's long-term support for disaster preparedness and response across the United States. A RENEWED COMMITMENT TO SUPPORT RED CROSS DISASTER RELIEF This year alone, the Red Cross has mobilized in response to tornadoes, wildfires, flooding, a super typhoon, and more - providing relief, comfort and hope to those affected. As extreme weather increases in frequency and intensity, donations from ADGP members like the CMA CGM Foundation continue to fuel Red Cross readiness for and response to more than 60,000 disasters annually. ADGP members pledge financial and in-kind donations in advance of disasters to power the Red Cross with the infrastructure, volunteers, technology and supplies necessary to provide relief and support when needed. These donations enable the Red Cross to respond immediately - offering a safe place to sleep, a warm meal, emotional support and resources to aid in recovery - while also helping prepare people and communities for future disasters. Donations from ADGP members also support basic needs for families affected by home fires - which comprise the bulk of Red Cross response efforts - and help ensure the Red Cross can continue educating people nationwide about disaster preparedness so they can cope with crises in their communities. AN ONGOING PARTNERSHIP TO HELP IN TIMES OF CRISIS The CMA CGM Foundation is committed to humanitarian aid and uses the organization's resources in transport and logistics to act swiftly to respond to crises and disasters worldwide. Beyond its financial contribution to the Red Cross, the CMA CGM Foundation provides logistical support that helps strengthen Red Cross operational capacity. Since 2023, this support has included the organization of road transportation, the leasing of 15 trailers, warehousing solutions and the deployment of a dedicated logistics Task Force across CMA CGM Group's subsidiaries in the United States. Together, these resources help ensure emergency supplies are pre-positioned and readily available when disasters strike. In 2024, the CMA CGM Foundation provided freight and in-kind support - including meals and shelter supplies - for communities recovering from Hurricanes Helene and Milton. As part of its 2025 commitment, the Foundation delivered 15 trailers, several of which are pre-stocked with relief supplies and strategically prepositioned along the West Coast in preparation for wildfire responses. The Foundation also supported the Red Cross response to the 2025 California wildfires with deliveries of cots and cleaning supplies. "I am deeply grateful for Annual Disaster Giving Program members like the CMA CGM Foundation that play a vital role in helping the Red Cross respond quickly and effectively when disasters strike," said Cliff Holtz, president and CEO of the American Red Cross. "Support from forward-thinking organizations like CMA CGM Foundation helps ensure we are prepared to meet rising needs and deliver critical relief to families and communities when its needed most." "The American Red Cross has been a major partner of the CMA CGM Foundation for the past three years, and on this World Red Cross Day, I am pleased to announce the renewal of our commitment in 2026. In a context of increasingly frequent and intense disasters, we will continue to provide financial and logistical support, helping enabl rapid and effective response by leveraging the Group's expertise," said Tanya Saadé Zeenny, president of the CMA CGM Foundation. About the CMA CGM Foundation Founded in 2005 and chaired by Tanya Saadé Zeenny, the CMA CGM Foundation focuses on humanitarian action and access to education. It embodies and translates the family values and solidarity of the CMA CGM Group, a global leader in transport and logistics, into concrete actions. Facing crises, the Foundation leverages the expertise of the CMA CGM Group to deliver essential humanitarian supplies. It also supports access to quality education, professional training and integration, as well as educational and social innovation. To date, the Foundation has transported 120,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid to 106 countries, supported over 630 projects in France, Lebanon, and around the world, and assisted 67 entrepreneurs through its social incubator, Le Phare. About the American Red Cross: The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides comfort to victims of disasters; supplies about 40% of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; distributes international humanitarian aid; and supports veterans, military members and their families.
