Requirements
  • Education level equivalent to graduation from an accredited school of registered nursing.
  • Must have and maintain an unencumbered Registered Nurse License in the State of Georgia.
  • Must have and maintain certification in Basic Life Support cardiopulmonary resuscitation and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support.
  • Must demonstrate three to five years of medical-surgical or related experience.
  • Must have intermediate computer skills with word processing and spreadsheet capabilities.
  • Must have management skills and experience in planning, organizing, implementing, facilitating, interviewing, counseling, and verbal and written communications.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver direct and indirect patient care in collaboration with a Registered Nurse and remain accountable to the Registered Nurse for care administered during the shift.
  • Assist in the supervision of subordinates in accordance with applicable accreditation, federal, state, local, organizational, and departmental standards and policies.
  • Communicate with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and safety standards.
  • Participate in continuing education and assigned committees.
  • Assist the Registered Nurse with initial and ongoing patient assessments.
  • Collect, organize, chart, and relay patient information to staff on duty.
  • Participate in patient examinations to assess physical function.
  • Identify and document patients’ physical and emotional conditions, including admission assessments, problem lists, and nursing notes.
  • Collaborate with health team members to formulate and update patient-specific problem lists.
  • Provide verbal input regarding plans of care.
  • Deliver patient-centered care and reduce patient anxiety through calm explanations and education about procedures.
  • Assist with patients’ daily hygiene, hydration, nutrition, elimination, mental stimulation, and social needs.
  • Supervise and assist with preoperative patient care, including proper dress, preoperative voiding, chart completion, and premedication.
  • Identify physical symptoms and changes and report them promptly to the Registered Nurse.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to established policies and procedures, observe medication-related changes, and document medications given and missed doses.
  • Use medical and surgical asepsis in all aspects of care.
  • Promote patient independence or assist patients in accepting dependent status according to their condition.
  • Implement teaching plans with the Registered Nurse for patients and families.
  • Review home-care instructions before discharge, document the review, assist with discharge, and transport patients to their vehicles.
  • Use patient data to measure progress toward nursing goals in conjunction with the Registered Nurse.
  • Initiate new nursing actions as needed.
  • Perform clear, concise, organized, and legible administrative charting, including nursing interventions and patient responses.
  • Track patient progress toward goals, document findings, and recommend alternative approaches when needed.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
