- Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related field
- Five years of experience in emergency/EMS pre-hospital care
- Leadership, supervisory and/or teaching experience
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or certification as an Emergency Management Technician-Paramedic (EMTP)
- Certified in the State of Ohio as an EMS instructor within one year of hire
- Basic Life Support (BSL), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications. Must hold instructor status for these certifications within one year of hire
- Must hold instructor status for BLS, ACLS, and PALS within one year of hire
- Knowledge of relationships between the community, EMS and the hospital
- Knowledge of regulatory and other legal issues that preside over healthcare and EMS
- Knowledge of Hospital Incident Command System (HICS), National Disaster Management System (NDMS), National Incident Management System (NIMS) and county/regional/state emergency management plans
- Implement, direct, supervise and promote all aspects of the delivery of optimal, pre-hospital care by Emergency Medical Service (EMS) providers
- Collaborate with the EMS Medical Director and Emergency Medicine Physicians to develop pre-hospital protocols that meet optimal standards of care
- Meet the continuing education needs of EMS providers and establish parameters for Patient Safety and Quality initiatives
- Integrate and take an active role coordinating programs and services to promote a comprehensive system approach to pre-hospital care
- Monitor and verify continuing education hours for EMS providers as required by the state
- Plan and conduct specialized EMS training courses for certification and recertification of EMS providers and nursing
- Improve EMS skills by providing continued educational development opportunities
- Format, implement, coordinate and distribute new or revised protocols and other education materials
- Develop and maintain communications with EMS and community leaders through various methods including newsletter, bulletin boards, direct mailings, advisory councils, and personal interaction
- Meet regularly with EMS leaders and participate in EMS sponsored activities to build relationships
- Collaborate with Medical Director and emergency physicians to develop, implement and monitor Quality standards of care for prehospital care providers
- Conduct run reviews and assist with license certification documentation
- Collaborate with the hospital Emergency Management Coordinator to ensure ED readiness for disaster situations
- Assist in maintaining EMS equipment in a clean and working order
- Collaborate to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing program designed to increase EMS ambulance deliveries and collaborate with EMS Medical Director to coordinate/operationalize Emergency Department Disaster Preparedness Plan
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive database of all activities related to the delivery of pre-hospital care
- Three years of experience as an EMS instructor

Cleveland Clinic has partnered with Luminai, a San Francisco-based AI startup, to automate complex administrative healthcare workflows. The collaboration coincides with Luminai's $38 million Series B funding round, bringing total capital raised to approximately $60 million, with backing from Peak XV Partners, General Catalyst, Define Ventures and Y Combinator. The health system, which employs over 80,000 staff across 23 hospitals, selected Luminai to address administrative burdens that account for roughly a quarter of US healthcare spending. Initial deployment focuses on referral management, where Cleveland Clinic processes thousands of daily faxes requiring manual review and routing. "The goal is to reduce administrative burden and allow our caregivers to focus on patient care," said Rohit Chandra, Cleveland Clinic's chief digital officer. The partnership reflects growing pressure on health systems to modernise operations whilst managing workforce shortages and rising costs.
Medtronic has announced the first US commercial surgery using its FDA-cleared Hugo robotic-assisted surgery system, successfully performed at Cleveland Clinic by Dr Jihad Kaouk. The robotic-assisted prostatectomy patient was discharged the following day. The Hugo RAS system features a mobile footprint with modular arms designed to address operating room scheduling challenges and infrastructure limitations. The system aims to expand access to minimally invasive surgery, which offers benefits including reduced blood loss, shorter hospital stays and decreased recovery time compared to open surgery. Cleveland Clinic, Duke University Hospital and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist High Point Medical Center are among the first US hospitals to install the system. The Hugo RAS system is available in over 35 countries. Medtronic plans to expand indications beyond urology into gynaecologic and general surgery procedures.
