- A high school diploma or equivalent education and experience is required.
- Successful completion of an accredited paramedic program is required.
- Current Michigan licensure as an EMT-P (Paramedic) is required.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills are required.
- The employee must be able to assess patients using auscultation, visualization, palpation, percussion, and manipulation.
- The employee must be able to stand, walk, talk, hear, perform fine motor skills, occasionally stoop, crouch, kneel, lift or move up to 50 pounds, and respond quickly to emergency situations.
- The employee must maintain clinical competency for job-related tasks and assignments.
- The employee must preserve patient autonomy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights and serve as a patient advocate.
- Under RN supervision, provide direct patient care in the Trauma and Emergency Center.
- Provide competent care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients according to hospital policies, procedures, guidelines, and completed competencies.
- Implement appropriate interventions and administer prescribed medications and treatments using approved nursing techniques and policies.
- Use evidence-based interventions specific to each patient's plan of care.
- Maintain awareness of patients' comfort and safety needs.
- Initiate and coordinate individualized patient education plans.
- Perform advanced skills and procedures outlined in the applicable skill sheet.
- Participate in ongoing education and maintain professional records documenting competency and continuing education.
- Evaluate practice against professional standards, guidelines, statutes, rules, and regulations.
- Provide age-appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care.
- Participate in self-evaluation, peer review, hospital or unit committees, and unit staff meetings as appropriate.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and multiple health disciplines to achieve positive patient outcomes.
- Use research findings and evidence-based practice to improve patient health and the practice environment.
- Share knowledge and skills with peers and colleagues and contribute to a supportive professional work environment.
- Integrate ethical provisions into all areas of practice.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Three years of paramedic experience in a pre-hospital setting.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification, required within one year of hire.
- Prehospital Trauma Life Support certification, maintained or obtained after hire.
- Basic Trauma Life Support certification, maintained or obtained after hire.
- Previous hospital experience.
- Basic computer skills.
