Audio/Video Producer

Audio/Video Producer is the key audio personnel for all studio productions. Assists in all aspects of production as assigned by production management.

WGCU is Southwest Florida’s source for PBS and NPR. A member-supported service of Florida Gulf Coast University, WGCU provides educational programming that inspires, informs and engages our community. Serving all or part of 12 counties in south and Southwest Florida, with five distinct digital TV channels, two FM radio channels, two HD radio channels, and multiple websites, WGCU delivers national and international programming, and develops, produces and delivers relevant, informative and educational local programs to the region.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

• Oversees the lighting and audio requirements of selected field, contract, and studio projects.
• Produces, directs and manages all video production, acting as key audio engineer for all studio and/or field productions.
• Schedules guests for each program and coordinates all logistics for taping.
• Ensures all audio is up to broadcast quality standards.
• Troubleshoots/resolves audio challenges with sense of urgency.
• Oversees and assists with all show tapings.
• Edits and produces all final programs including audio/visual elements for broadcast and digital.
• Assists with program promotion both on-line and off the air.
• Oversees studio set-ups including sets, lighting, and sound, as well as audio configurations such as guest microphones and room acoustics.
• Assists with video post-production.

Other Duties:

• May supervise student workers, interns, or OPS staff as assigned.
• Participates in on-air fundraising campaigns.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

• This position requires either eight years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
• Professional full-time experience in audio/television broadcasting.
• Experience with producing and editing video.
• Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 4 years professional, full-time experience in audio/visual broadcasting.
• Experience using audio board, Adobe Audition, and Premiere Pro.
• Experience using in video production.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Skilled in operating an audio board for studio and/or live broadcasts.
• Skilled in current digital audio editing and Adobe software applications.
• Knowledge of public broadcasting industry; awareness of new techniques and practices.
• Knowledge of policies, procedures, and guidelines established by professional organizations and/or governing agencies.
• Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
• Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and environments.
• Ability to assist live, multi-camera studio productions.
• Ability to use microphones, portable recording devices, and video studio production equipment.
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively and willing to contribute to a team effort.
• Ability to diffuse and respond professionally to stressful situations and difficult people.
• Excellent oral, verbal and written communication skills.
