  • Completion of some high school coursework.
  • A few months of experience in processing or distribution of goods or customer service.
  • Knowledge of lifting guidelines.
  • Cash handling experience.
  • Experience with cash registers and related processes and procedures, including bank deposits and summary reports.
  • Experience working in a computerized environment.
  • Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
  • Good interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 29 pounds frequently without assistance, including bending, twisting, pulling, and pushing products.
  • Ability and willingness to successfully undergo applicable screening and background checks.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and frequently twist, bend, crouch, and reach.
  • Willingness to wear gloves when working with unknown contents and follow applicable health and safety requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Greet and interact with customers and donors in a positive, friendly, and courteous manner.
  • Contribute to store sales targets and provide efficient, courteous customer service.
  • Provide product pricing and featured-sale-product information while protecting the integrity of donated items.
  • Maintain store opening and closing procedures.
  • Accurately complete customer transactions, including cash and debit sales, with minimal voids, overages, or shortages.
  • Follow store policies regarding cheques, credit cards, refunds, voids, and holds.
  • Load, unload, sort, pack, hang, price, and store donated materials.
  • Respond to customer inquiries by phone and in person using knowledge of store stock.
  • Monitor store activity to support store security.
  • Assist with store layout, window displays, merchandise displays, and tidy maintenance.
  • Retrieve, sort, hang, and price inventory as directed.
  • Assist with donation turnover, replenish sales-floor inventory, and remove inventory from the sales floor as directed.
  • Handle merchandise safely and in an organized manner; assist with stock rotation and recycling procedures.
  • Assist donors with contributions, unload donations, and place stock in the appropriate location.
  • Sort and process goods properly, comply with quality standards, and price products according to store policy.
  • Support staff and customer safety, including snow removal, clearing fire exits, and cleaning spills or obstacles.
  • Maintain an attractive, organized, and safe store; tidy and restock shelves and clean common areas as needed.
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other assigned work-related duties.
