Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field is required.
  • One year of professional-level accounting experience is required.
  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license or have the ability to obtain one by the time of hire.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background review or background investigation.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting and financial service applications is required.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret financial data and information is required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with peers, management, and external contacts is required.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare travel files for all incoming approved requests and follow through to completion.
  • Book travel arrangements, including car, hotel, airline, and registration arrangements.
  • Coordinate with travelers regarding arrangements.
  • Prepare post-travel and pre-travel per diem from payroll processing.
  • Prepare monthly purchasing-card allocation and reports.
  • Provide backup for extradition per diem processing.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, year-end, and ad hoc reports.
  • Coordinate and provide requested documentation for County and State auditors, the Office of Management and Budget, and media requests.
  • Participate in and complete special projects assigned by the Bureau, Division Commander, or supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance between the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and the County regarding Human Resources and financial systems applications and processes.
  • Interpret rules in accordance with laws, regulations, policies, and current practices.
  • Coordinate and supervise resources to ensure assigned tasks are accurate and completed on time when required.
  • Use multiple information systems to access financial information.
  • Maintain ledgers, registers, records of initial entry, and control accounts.
  • Prepare, implement, and validate journal vouchers.
  • Perform reconciliation analyses.
  • Review others' work for accuracy.
  • Initiate resolution and reporting of discrepancies involving financial transactions.
  • Assist with financial audits and compliance reviews.
  • Act as a liaison between the Sheriff's Finance office and County departments.
  • Represent the Sheriff's Office Financial Bureau at meetings regarding activities or functions related to the assigned unit.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement job-process improvements.
  • Provide information regarding departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all required financial and other reporting associated with the Sheriff's Office's financial activity is completed in a timely manner.
  • Investigate discrepancies, provide recommendations based on sound accounting practices, and apply appropriate resolutions.
  • Discuss items with the supervisor to ensure consistency in application.
  • Perform assigned tasks at the scheduled times and dates.
  • Maintain accuracy and ethical conduct while working with frequent interruptions, time pressures, high work volume, and changing or unscheduled tasks.
  • Drive to related locations during the scheduled workday when required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Public-sector accounting experience is preferred.
  • Experience coordinating, booking, and preparing travel arrangements is preferred.
