Job Description

Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is seeking an Engineering Technician 2 to join our team. This position will be supporting the Propulsion Systems Division at our facility located in Promontory, UT.

Successful candidate will perform sample setup, assembly, mixing, cutups, bonding and manufacture and configuration of energetic and inert test articles in support of multiple developmental programs.  This may include working with energetic materials and the fabrication and assembly of propellant and explosive articles.  Candidate will be required to review and implement test plans, drawings, specifications and planning in support of various development projects. Skills needed include strong working knowledge and experience in majority of the following areas: sample fabrication and installation, operation of specialized operating equipment and tooling, handling operations, and safe use of various chemicals and explosives. Implementation of continuous improvement using 5S and Lean Manufacturing principles will be required. Job function requires use of standard computer skills. Must have experience in set-up, fabrication, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems.  Must have strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

Role Description and Responsibilities:

• Work on various projects as assigned to help improve process and team environment.

• The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels.

• Compiles reports, data, planning, certifications, and other items to comply with internal and customer hardware packages that will be presented to outside customers for review acceptance. 

• Candidates must be highly organized, attentive to detail, possess strong computer and communication skills.

• Perform construction and wiring of test fixtures and test chassis working from drawings, schematics and instructions.

• This role will report on-site daily to our Propulsion Systems location near Corinne UT. Some domestic travel may be required. This in an onsite position, with no work from home options at the present.

• Must be disciplined to follow detailed instructions and comply with procedures

• Excellent written and oral communication skills to create clear and understandable documentation

• Computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications 

Basic Qualifications:  

• High school diploma or GED and 2 years of relevant experience OR associate’s degree/certificate in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and 0 years of relevant experience.

• Previous experience gathering, maintaining and compiling technical data.

• Able to read engineering documentation and reports including drawings and schematics.

• Capability to understand and follow electronic work instruction documents.

• Ability to read, clearly interpret and accurately follow standard work and other written instructions.

• Capable of the use of calibrated measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, and electrical meters.

• Proficient with manual and power tools.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with bonding and surface preparation

• Applying paints and primers to different substrates

Additional Requirements:

• Successful candidate must be able to pass a background check for the Federal Safe Explosives Act (SEA)

• Must be able to qualify for an Alcohol Tobacco and Firearm (ATF) “Explosives Possessor” designation

• Must be able to qualify for a Department of Defense security clearance

This position’s standard work schedule is a 4/10.

Salary Range: $47,000.00 - $78,300.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
