Overview:

The CDC Foundation seeks a Nurse Consultant II who will work in the Communicable Disease Branch of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. As a member of the Epi-On-Call staff, this position will be instrumental in providing the expertise and resources needed to successfully provide timely, evidence-based information and recommendations to federal, state and local partners, including 84 local health departments/districts, community providers and the general public.

Qualifications:

- Basic knowledge of principles and practices of applicable State and Federal laws, business, finance, physician services, nursing, pharmacy, sanitation, diagnostic services and/or patient activity programs.

· Considerable knowledge of advanced communication skills, both verbal and written, to both patients and families, as well as professional colleagues, physicians, other agencies, vendors and research sponsors.

· Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of State and Federal standards, certifying and accrediting bodies, guidelines and regulations applicable to areas of assignment.

· Ability to answer questions from nursing and medical staff or provide consultation on disease processes, treatment and care.

· Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of clinical experience in the area of specialization.

Responsibilities:

- Document calls, including a summary of recommendations, control measures, and any other information given in the call center database.

· Possess a working knowledge of CDC and North Carolina program guidelines for reportable communicable diseases and conditions,

NC General Statutes and NC Administrative Code for Public Health Law and Rules, Epidemiology, including surveillance techniques, outbreak investigation and communicable disease control measures.

· Read and write effectively in both written and verbal communications.

· Communicate appropriate control measures, advise about investigative techniques, identify needed additional information for investigations and advise about other special needs or considerations related to investigations.

· Prioritize technical, administrative, and advisory tasks.

· Requires use of Teams, email, and phone to consult with state subject matter experts (SME) as needed.

· Respond immediately to the needs of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

· Shift rapidly between planned duties and new assignments.

· Provide instruction to public health professionals and establish and maintain professional relationships with local public health staff.

· Utilize a computer for database entry and maintain basic computer skills.

Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, in order to best support the State of North Carolina in their public health programming.

This position is currently a remote position. CDC Foundation retains the right to make adjustments to this as required.
