Requirements
  • Graduate of a U.S.-based residency program.
  • Board certified or eligible in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Family Practice with current licensure in Massachusetts.
  • Current Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
  • Commitment to high-quality, cost-effective health care and the principles of group practice.
  • Experience in Urgent Care.
  • Demonstrated skills in clinical care, effective communication, and shared decision-making.
  • Experience with urgent care procedures.
  • Letter of good health from a health care provider.
  • A tuberculosis skin test or blood test within the past month, or documentation of a previous chest X-ray and past treatment if the applicant has a known positive test.
  • Documentation of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella.
  • Proof of appropriate past immunization for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella.
  • Hepatitis B vaccine series for staff with possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • A current flu vaccine for the season.
  • Compliance with required medical documentation, vaccinations, and employment clearances.
  • A pre-employment reference and background screening.
Responsibilities
  • Provide urgent health care to the University's student, faculty/staff, and retiree populations.
  • Conduct urgent care visits and outpatient care for acute and non-acute patient complaints.
  • Perform problem-based physical examinations and order appropriate laboratory, X-ray, diagnostic, and medical procedures.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate acute medical care as needed.
  • Coordinate referrals and follow-up care with other health care providers for specialized needs.
  • Educate patients about illnesses, complications, and healthy lifestyle practices in the context of their age, gender, psychosocial and cultural factors, and overall health.
  • Advise patients on clinically appropriate and cost-effective therapy, including the potential risks and benefits of treatment, using patient-centered care and shared decision-making.
  • Work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other members of the Urgent Care team.
  • Participate in quality projects, daily huddles, Lean activities, continuing education, utilization management, and other departmental activities.
  • Coordinate activities with other HUHS service areas.
  • Comply with HUHS professional staff bylaws, policies, procedures, and applicable local, state, and federal accreditation regulations.
  • Communicate ordered laboratory results to patients in a timely manner, including clinically important abnormal results by telephone and most other results by mail or secure message.
  • Fully document patient care in the electronic medical record, including electronic prescriptions, telephone and email communications, and nursing visits requiring physician co-signature.
  • Participate in the instruction of medical students and residents.
  • Participate in team meetings, including daily huddles.
  • Participate in practice-improvement projects and serve as a process owner for projects assigned during daily huddles.
  • Participate in team and committee efforts to solve problems and propose ideas to improve quality of care.
  • Assist other clinicians and address patients' needs.
  • Work with the HUHS Patient Advocate and Chief of Urgent Care to resolve patient concerns or complaints.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and department information in accordance with HUHS confidentiality and electronic mail policies.
  • Complete HUHS training requirements, including HIPAA Privacy and Security training.
  • Report non-compliance incidents to the supervisor, manager, or Compliance Officer.
