Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, network engineering, information systems, cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline from an ABET‑accredited or CAE‑designated institution or an associate degree with four years of relevant experience or six years relevant experience
  • Active DoD Top Secret (or higher) clearance at the time of appointment.
  • More than three productive years performing intermediate‑level network‑support duties (CSWF Intermediate)
  • Experience with configuring and maintaining enterprise routers, switches, and firewalls (Cisco, Juniper, or equivalent)
  • Experience conducting network performance monitoring, capacity planning, and troubleshooting across LAN/WAN and cloud environments
  • At least one of the following DoD‑approved baseline certifications: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) GIAC Certified Intrusion Analyst (GCIA) GIAC Cloud Security (GCLD) GIAC Defensible Security Architecture (GDSA) GIAC Foundations of Advanced Cybersecurity Training (GFACT) CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+) Cisco Certified Network Professional – Security (CCNP Security) ISC² Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) GIAC Cloud Essentials (GCED) GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH)
  • Ability to independently design, implement, and troubleshoot complex network configurations, apply DoD‑required security controls, produce accurate network diagrams and RMF documentation, and provide clear Tier‑2/‑3 support to end users and field operators
Responsibilities
  • Serving as an intermediate level computer network support specialist for a DoD communications program based in Europe
  • Designing, implementing, monitoring, and troubleshooting of LAN, WAN, and cloud connected networks that support mission critical systems
  • Working under the senior network architect while performing advanced configuration of routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN gateways
  • Conducting performance capacity analyses
  • Applying security hardening measures
  • Providing Tier 2/3 support to end users and field sites
  • Creating detailed network documentation, producing RMF artifacts (SSP, POA&M), and serving as a technical liaison with government program officials, vendors, and on site operators
  • FILLING THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON FUNDING
Desired Qualifications
  • Deep knowledge of DoD networking and cyber policy frameworks (RMF, NIST 800 53, CNSSI 1253)
  • Hands on expertise with enterprise routing and switching platforms (Cisco IOS/IOS XE, NX OS, Junos) and experience configuring layer 3 routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP)
  • Proficiency with security devices, including firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA), IDS/IPS, and VPN technologies (IPsec, SSL/TLS, DMVPN)
  • Advanced network monitoring and analysis using tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, Wireshark, NetFlow/sFlow collectors, and ability to interpret telemetry for capacity planning
  • Experience connecting on premises networks to AWS GovCloud and Azure Government via Direct Connect/ExpressRoute, and securing hybrid environments
  • Competence in Python, PowerShell, or Bash for configuration management, device provisioning, and routine health checks
  • Experience with creation of detailed network diagrams (Visio, Lucidchart), change control records, and RMF artifacts (SSP, POA&M) that satisfy DoD audit requirements
  • Ability to triage network related security events, coordinate with the Information Security team, and implement containment measures
  • Experience guiding junior network technicians, conducting knowledge transfer sessions, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
  • Capable of presenting technical concepts to senior government officials, vendors, and non technical stakeholders in clear, concise briefings and written reports
