- A high school diploma or equivalent education is required.
- Two years of Medical Assistant experience in a clinic or outpatient setting, or one year in the Novice-II position, is required.
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association, or instructor certification, is required.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA, or certification as a Registered Medical Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician, is required.
- The ability to speak, read, and write English sufficiently to perform essential job functions, particularly those affecting patient or employee safety or security, is required.
- Knowledge of medical practice, patient care, medical equipment, and instruments, including the ability to assist with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatment procedures, is required.
- Proficiency in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes is required.
- Current certifications and completion of required continuous training and education must be maintained.
- Assist providers with the examination and treatment of patients under the direct supervision of clinical or administrative leadership.
- Assist with patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatments, and dressing changes.
- Perform general administrative duties in accordance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, National Committee for Quality Assurance, government standards, and company policies.
- Schedule patient appointments, ensure medical necessity compliance, and verify eligibility for care when required.
- Communicate with patients and document vital signs, chief complaints, medication reviews, and medical and social histories.
- Document care administered, diagnostic measurements, treatments, and procedures in the patient's electronic medical record.
- Follow up with patients regarding recommendations, medications, laboratory and radiology results, specialist visits, primary care visits, dieticians, and diabetes educators.
- Ensure patient utilization and activation of MyChart.
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations and help maintain equipment and supplies.
- Report patient observations, conditions, and problems to physicians or nurses.
- Sterilize instruments and equipment under the supervision of a senior Medical Assistant or Registered Nurse.
- Stock examination rooms and take inventory.
- Use resources efficiently, manage time, prioritize daily tasks, and assist other team members between heavy workloads.
- Participate in performance improvement projects and professional development activities.
- Seek guidance and validation from preceptors and assigned licensed personnel when needed.
- Complete and update the My Development Plan on an ongoing basis.
- Collaborate and communicate with the interprofessional care team, patients, families, physicians, nurses, and coworkers to support patient care and resolve problems.
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification through ACA is preferred.
