Requirements
  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an appropriately accredited U.S., osteopathic, or internationally recognized medical school with Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates certification.
  • US citizenship is required.
  • Extensive current emergency medicine experience, defined as working more than 20 hours per week during the previous 12 months in a similar or high-level emergency care setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certifications.
  • A full, active, unrestricted medical license as a medical doctor or doctor of osteopathic medicine and the ability to obtain clinical privileges at the military treatment facility.
  • National Provider Identifier and active Drug Enforcement Administration registration.
  • No education equivalency substitutions are permitted.
Responsibilities
  • Provide timely, high-quality, patient-centered emergency care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
  • Perform emergency procedures including incision and drainage, wound repair, foreign body removal, fracture and dislocation reduction and splinting, defibrillation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway management, intubation, difficult airway techniques, cricothyrotomy, lumbar puncture, chest tube placement, open thoracotomy, central and peripheral intravenous access, bladder catheterization, nasogastric and orogastric tube placement, conscious sedation, rapid sequence intubation, emergency vaginal delivery, diagnostic peritoneal lavage, and administration of intravenous, intramuscular, and subcutaneous medications.
  • Obtain and document patient histories and physical examinations, interpret electrocardiograms, laboratory results, and preliminary radiographs, and develop appropriate treatment plans.
  • Respond to Code Blue events, provide resuscitation, manage cardiopulmonary arrest, and coordinate emergency medical services or specialty support when necessary.
  • Provide immediate emergency evaluation, definitive stabilization, discharge instructions, referrals, and appropriate follow-up.
  • Provide emergency care to inpatients and outpatients and remain in or immediately available to the Emergency Center throughout the assigned shift.
  • Complete timely and accurate medical records, including histories, physical examinations, diagnoses, treatment plans, laboratory and X-ray documentation, ADS records, and required reports.
  • Use the hospital formulary and prescribe or dispense medications in accordance with military treatment facility policies, including dispensing medications after the pharmacy closes.
  • Meet established productivity and workload standards and comply with applicable MEDCOM, hospital, Army, military treatment facility, and Joint Commission requirements.
  • Coordinate with consultants, accepting facilities, emergency medical services, military treatment facility personnel, and the Contracting Officer's Representative as appropriate.
  • Attend required staff meetings, grand rounds, and academic activities, and provide resident lectures when required.
  • Serve as the sole physician in the Emergency Center during a shift when assigned and manage emergencies without additional physician support.
  • See urgent and acute patients in a timely manner, including at least three patients per hour when emergent workload is low.
