Requirements
  • The candidate must be licensed to work as a Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri.
  • The candidate must maintain a current Registered Nurse license and required certifications.
  • The candidate must maintain current Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • The candidate must complete annual tuberculosis screening, influenza vaccination, ethics training, safety training, information security training, abuse and neglect training, blood-borne pathogens training when required, annual competency, age/population-specific competency when applicable, orientation competency when required, and service-specific requirements.
  • The candidate must practice standard precautions, follow infection control policies, use safe patient handling techniques, and dispose of hazardous waste according to established guidelines.
  • The candidate must be able to work irregular night-shift hours and handle emergency and crisis situations.
  • The candidate must be able to occasionally stand or walk for prolonged periods and lift, position, push, or transfer patients.
  • The candidate must communicate professionally with coworkers, patients, families, medical staff, and other healthcare team members.
Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive, age-appropriate admission, transfer, post-operative, and post-invasive-procedure nursing assessments and document findings.
  • Assess and document patient and family education and discharge needs throughout hospitalization.
  • Establish, coordinate, and evaluate individualized plans of care using assessment data, diagnoses, laboratory data, tests, procedures, physician orders, protocols, and standards of care.
  • Identify short- and long-term patient-care goals and formulate nursing interventions to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Incorporate disease-specific evidence-based practice into nursing care plans and documentation.
  • Provide and document nursing interventions based on assessed needs, the plan of care, and changes in patient status.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate the daily plan of care for assigned patients.
  • Provide, coordinate, and communicate patient care, including accurate handoff communication reports.
  • Administer and accurately document medications according to policies and procedures.
  • Monitor, maintain, and document intravenous fluids and parenteral nutrition according to policies and procedures.
  • Complete referrals and request consultations for special patient or family needs, equipment, or information.
  • Provide patient and family education and discharge planning according to documentation guidelines and protocols.
  • Clarify and accurately implement physician orders, including documenting readback for telephone or verbal orders and accepting such orders only in emergency situations.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and treatments or delegate care to appropriate care partners.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition, clinical parameters, risks, and possible abuse or neglect, and take appropriate action or report concerns through required channels.
  • Apply infection-control practices and maintain a safe, clean, comfortable, and therapeutic patient environment.
  • Provide specialized care for patients at high risk for injury, including initiating and evaluating restraint alternatives, applying restraints, monitoring responses, providing required care, and documenting restraint use.
  • Assess and manage patient pain, incorporate cultural and spiritual beliefs, implement pain-management techniques, and involve patients and families in pain-management planning.
  • Document and communicate nursing care and changes in patient condition, evaluate care effectiveness, modify plans of care, and report significant changes or treatment variations.
  • Identify problems, gather pertinent data, suggest solutions, communicate through appropriate lines of authority, and work toward resolution.
  • Participate in committees, shared governance, work teams, unit-based practice councils, performance-improvement activities, occurrence reviews, nursing research, and maintenance or improvement of nursing quality indicators.
  • Orient or precept new employees when required and supervise and teach students and new staff nurses.
  • Provide professional collaboration, function as a resource for coworkers, patients, families, medical staff, and healthcare team members, and delegate activities appropriately.
  • Communicate each patient’s plan of care precisely and professionally.
  • Practice safety and infection control, including hand hygiene, standard precautions, safe transport, maintenance of invasive lines, and vaccination according to policy.
  • Provide timely, high-quality, courteous, respectful, confidential, and cost-effective care to patients and families.
  • Respond promptly to patient requests and call lights, explain procedures, tests, medications, monitoring equipment, and daily care plans, and involve patients and families in decision-making.
  • Use hospital resources efficiently, document chargeable supplies and equipment, prioritize responsibilities, and complete work on time.
