Requirements
- The LVN must function within the required nursing process defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
- The LVN must meet all training and competency requirements.
- The LVN may be required to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.
- The LVN must have experience working with patients with Alzheimer’s disease and the geriatric population.
- The LVN must communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.
- The LVN must use analytical thinking to analyze information, coordinate work within schedule constraints, and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
- Provide general nursing care to patients under the supervision of a registered nurse, dentist, or member of the medical staff.
- Participate as an integral part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing care to patients.
- Sort, prioritize, and manage patient messages and calls, and manage patient appointment scheduling.
- Prepare patients for examinations, set up and maintain sterile fields, assist clinical staff with examinations and clinical care, and document care.
- Assist providers with procedures, perform patient discharges, and verify communication of instructions with patients and families.
- Maintain the assigned work area, supplies, and equipment; clean and stock examination and procedure rooms; maintain instruments and equipment; and transport patients safely.
- Perform point-of-care testing, document clinical findings, and report them to the registered nurse in charge and/or provider.
- Lead or mentor lower-level team members when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
