Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required, although up to four years of additional qualifying work experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • One year of professional secretarial, clerical, coordinator, or administrative experience is required.
  • Knowledge of clerical and administrative procedures and systems such as filing and record-keeping is required.
  • Skill in oral and written communication is required.
  • Skill in using Microsoft Office products is required.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments is required.
  • Ability to operate office equipment and keyboards and perform sedentary office work is required.
  • Ability to attend meetings both on and off campus is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide high-level support to the Chair and Director of Operations of the Fischell Department of Bioengineering.
  • Facilitate special projects on behalf of the Chair.
  • Manage the department's APT process.
  • Organize departmental meetings, events, and committees.
  • Serve as the point of contact for internal and external constituents.
  • Manage departmental financial and human-resources operations in coordination with the Director of Operations.
  • Work some evenings and weekends as needed to manage events.
  • Prepare and analyze data and figures, transcribe information, view a computer terminal, and perform extensive reading.
  • Lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 10 pounds occasionally or a negligible amount frequently or constantly.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, dependability, and conscientiousness.
  • Ability to efficiently manage tasks in an active environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with Google Suite, Concur, Priority (BA4), and Workday.
  • Demonstrated experience using the APA system and knowledge of faculty affairs procedures.
  • Prior experience in higher education, particularly at the University of Maryland.
