View

The Jackson Laboratory focuses on biomedical research using laboratory mice to explore the genetic and genomic factors behind human diseases. It operates a comprehensive database called the Mouse Genome Informatics (MGI), which provides essential genetic, genomic, and biological data to researchers globally. This resource supports academic institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and healthcare providers in their efforts to improve human health. Unlike many competitors, JAX is a nonprofit organization that generates revenue through grants, donations, and the sale of specialized services, such as genetically engineered mice and genomic data analysis. JAX aims to advance scientific knowledge and treatment options for diseases like cancer and diabetes while also emphasizing education and training for future scientists through various learning programs.
