Requirements
  • Education: Minimum - High School diploma or equivalent
  • Work Experience: Minimum - 2 years minimum of customer service skills required.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Must be BLS certified or must provide BLS certificate within 30 days of hire.
  • Licenses and Certifications: M.A.B. certification required. New hires must obtain within 6 months of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Interview incoming patients (inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department) to obtain all pertinent data for admission and produce a complete and accurate admission record.
  • Produce a complete and accurate admission record including medical record information as well as demographic and financial related information.
  • Answer inquiries related to admissions.
  • Collect deposits or payments.
  • Interact with nursing units and ancillary departments and provide directions to various areas within the hospital.
  • Acknowledge patients or guests and their requests.
  • Appear professional in dress, grooming and hygiene.
  • Assist in the training of new employees.
  • Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to the rights of patients and significant others.
  • Document any financial arrangements made in the patient’s account notes.
  • Notify Admitting Manager or Business Office Manager of problem accounts.
  • Exhibit concern, tact and discretion in all working relationships.
  • Report unsafe issues and maintain safety awareness.
  • Uphold the highest service standards regarding patient care.
  • Make patients’ needs the first priority.
  • Be cross trained in all areas including Inpatient, Outpatient, Bed Board, and Emergency Room.
  • Be familiar with hospital layout to direct patients to proper destination.
  • Must be physically able to push a wheelchair.
  • Be willing to meet staffing needs including overtime, holidays, and shift changes.
  • Remain informed and compliant with HIPAA, EMTALA, the Fair Debt and Collection Practices Act, Medicare Secondary Payer, and other laws and regulations governing Patient Financial Services.
  • Remain informed regarding PPO, HMO, Medicare, Medi-Cal and indigent service programs and requirements for timely processing of claims.
  • Offer assistance promptly, cordially, and completely.
  • Patient care is the utmost priority and be comfortable with sick patients and summon medical assistance when needed.
  • Be BLS certified each year.
  • Monitor patient valuables in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Promote unity and teamwork among co-workers and other departments.
  • Handle confidential information appropriately at work and off-site.
  • Complete patient’s electronic medical record and ensure paperwork is sent to proper destination in timely fashion.
  • Obtain Advance Directive information from inpatient, ER, OPS, and bed patients and enter accurate data in computer and on Conditions of Admission.
  • Explain financial responsibility to patient and collect deposits on self-paying patients and co-payments from insured patients; make financial arrangements if unable to meet obligations; complete promissory note when necessary.
  • Collect all patient related information to produce complete and accurate patient admission record including selecting correct medical record numbers, gathering current patient data, photocopying insurance and identification cards, obtaining authorization, signatures on forms, and accurate insurance and demographic information.
  • Understand and participate in organization-wide Performance Improvement Program through orientation, education, departmental, and inter-departmental quality control and quality planning.
  • Understand Consent forms, Advance Directive, and any other forms patient must sign to clearly state intention; ensure patients are well informed before signature.
  • Meet department productivity goal of registering a minimum of 20 patients per shift and maintain account accuracy rate of no less than 80%.
  • Complete shift logs in Emergency Department.
  • Complete required courses within 90 days for new employees and within 1 year for current employees; competency test every two years.
