Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in a PhD degree in Computer Science or a related technical field in the EMEA region and in the penultimate or final year of education.
  • Experience working with data structures and algorithms through coursework, projects, research, internships, or practical school or work experience such as open-source coding.
  • Experience with one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Java, C, C++, Python, JavaScript, or Go.
  • Must be available to complete a 13–17 week full-time internship in the United Kingdom starting in May, June, or July 2027.
  • Must be located in the United Kingdom for the duration of the internship.
  • Must provide an updated curriculum vitae or résumé and a current unofficial or official transcript in English.
  • Must include the expected graduation date and internship availability on the résumé.
Responsibilities
  • Research, conceive, and develop software applications to extend and improve Google's product offering.
  • Contribute to projects involving natural language processing, artificial intelligence, data compression, machine learning, and search technologies.
  • Collaborate on scalability issues involving access to data and information.
  • Apply large-scale production software troubleshooting exposure.
  • Help maintain mission-critical services.
  • Design, test, deploy, and maintain software solutions during the internship.
  • Create, fix, extend, and scale code to maintain reliability and protect systems against malicious activity.
  • Troubleshoot traffic anomalies at the code level and maintain services.
  • Monitor systems and alerts and build automation infrastructure.
Desired Qualifications
  • Practical or internship experience, such as research assistant work, teaching assistant work, or personal projects, involving programming in C++, Java, Python, or Go.
  • Research experience in algorithms, architecture, artificial intelligence, compilers, databases, data mining, distributed systems, machine learning, networking, or systems.
  • Practical or internship experience with web application development, Unix or Linux, mobile application development, distributed and parallel systems, machine learning, information retrieval, natural language processing, networking, large software systems, or security software development.
