Requirements
  • Must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or a GED.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must provide annual verification of a negative tuberculosis skin test.
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required, with exceptions for medical and religious accommodations.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that enable these senses to function adequately.
  • Must meet the facility's general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and sometimes agitated residents.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and carry that weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • May be necessary to assist in evacuating residents during emergencies.
Responsibilities
  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local health and regulatory standards and guidelines.
  • Distribute and document residents' medications accurately and on time according to physician orders and applicable regulations.
  • Assist residents with overall wellbeing, activities of daily living, social activities, dietary assistance, and established care philosophies.
  • Supervise and care for residents daily according to their needs.
  • Assist residents with bathing, showering, shampooing, dressing, oral hygiene, shaving, hair care, and fingernail care as needed.
  • Observe, supervise, and record residents' self-administration of prescribed medications.
  • Report medication refusals, reactions, and changes in residents' conditions to the appropriate supervisor or director.
  • Direct residents and family members to appropriate staff for additional needs or information.
  • Order meal trays and provide dining-room assistance as needed.
  • Transfer relevant information to the next shift through verbal shift reports.
  • Implement personal care plans for each resident.
  • Communicate patiently and clearly with staff, residents, visitors, and families, referring families to the director or supervisor when unsure about a resident's status.
  • Administer medication as directed by the supervisor.
  • Answer emergency calls promptly and courteously and complete the required paperwork afterward.
  • Retrieve, sort, pre-soak, and process soiled linens and personal clothing.
  • Maintain resident-room cleanliness, including emptying waste baskets, wiping spills, washing dishes, putting away clothes, checking refrigerators for spoiled food, making beds, and changing linens.
  • Check for unsecured throw rugs and extension cords.
  • Inspect resident rooms or apartments and report repair needs to maintenance.
  • Document resident observations clearly and objectively in logbooks and other documents.
  • Participate in required in-service educational programs.
  • Follow facility policies, attendance policies, employment terms, and other assigned duties.
