Requirements
  • A college or university degree in related field.
  • Knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the head coach, assists with teaching, coaching, and mentoring student-athletes, recruiting qualified prospects, logistical planning of practice and competition, developing and implementing strategies.
  • Comply with University, NCAA, and UAA expectations, standards, and regulations.
  • Teach relevant skills to student-athletes during training and competition.
  • Evaluate the performance of the team and individuals to instruct and advise on technical, strategic, and mental development.
  • Serve on departmental committees.
  • Represent the University of Chicago in professional, alumni, and civic functions.
  • Direct the work of student workers and volunteer assistant coaches.
  • Extensive domestic travel required.
  • Secondary departmental responsibilities will be assigned by the athletic director.
  • Other duties as assigned by the head coach.
  • Has a moderate/high level of authority to participate in staff meetings, individual planning meetings, and parent-student staffings.
  • Helps staff to plan and execute events.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of two years of significant and relevant playing or teaching/coaching experience in softball.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (may be fulfilled upon employment).
  • Driver's License.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the sport and its rules.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments concurrently.
  • Familiarity with NCAA rules and Division III philosophy.
  • Embracing and understanding the importance of diversity and inclusion on teams and at the University.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required.
