Purpose
The ASC Surgical Technician is responsible for assisting surgeons and other healthcare professionals during surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, ensuring the availability and sterility of surgical instruments, and providing direct patient care. This role involves maintaining a sterile environment, anticipating the needs of the surgical team, and ensuring patient safety. The ASC Surgical Technician reports to the OR Charge RN and works closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff.
Responsibilities
Prepare Operating Room
Set up surgical instruments and equipment.
Ensure the operating room is sterile and ready for procedures.
Verify the functionality of surgical equipment.
Assist During Surgical Procedures
Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during procedures.
Anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
Maintain a sterile field throughout the surgery.
Provide Direct Patient Care
Assist with patient positioning and draping.
Monitor patients' vital signs during surgery.
Provide post-operative care as needed.
Maintain Sterility and Infection Control
Follow strict infection control protocols.
Sterilize instruments and equipment after use.
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Document and Report
Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures.
Report any issues or concerns to the Operating Room Supervisor.
Ensure all documentation meets regulatory and organizational standards.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in surgical technology.
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of an accredited surgical technology program.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in an ambulatory surgery center or similar healthcare setting.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
