Are you passionate about advancing public education, environmental sustainability, and developing the sustainability workforce of the future? As a Program Coordinator in the Climate Corps Fellowship program, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to impactful climate education initiatives with Climate Action Pathways for Schools. 

This is a hybrid position with the expectation of working remotely 3 days a week and traveling to school programs 2 days a week. There may be up to 2 weekend events during the fellowship. This position requires the employee to be physically located within commuting distance of Lawndale, CA, at the time of hire. Only candidates currently residing within commuting distance of the location will be considered.

We seek a program coordinator who is passionate about advancing public education, environmental sustainability, and developing the sustainability workforce of the future to join our team and lead a work-based learning program in Los Angeles. Training and managing high school interns to work on school sustainability initiatives, like reducing energy use.

Projects you will be working on include:

• Work in 1-2 school districts with the Program Manager to develop and implement high school internship programs.
• Each program has 2-3 projects that may include conducting energy audits and recommendations to support building decarbonization projects, implementing waste reduction programs, and conducting community engagement and education events.

About Our Partner: Climate Action Pathways for Schools

Climate Action Pathways for Schools (CAPS) is an innovative and growing California-based nonprofit organization. We partner with school communities to provide inspiring climate education programs and implement local projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions while saving money for school districts. CAPS provides paid internships for high school students that help them prepare for highly skilled college and career pathways and support them in the development of projects that mitigate climate change. CAPS climate action programs serve under-resourced schools and communities that are impacted by environmental injustices.

What You’ll Do

• Lead CAPS work-based learning programs for schools in Los Angeles.
  • Recruit and support the selection of high school students to participate in the program and provide orientation and ongoing training to student interns to help them build knowledge and skills necessary to develop and implement climate action projects in their school and prepare for future sustainability careers.
  • Supervise and monitor students' experiences, assess skill development, provide mentorship and support, and ensure interns’ learning and success.
• Lead the development and implementation of school projects related to climate action, which will include, but are not limited to, building decarbonization and energy efficiency.
  • Collaborate with experts, local community stakeholders, the school’s key personnel and staff, and the school communities to gather input and data to help inform the design of each climate project, including refining and developing learning modules.
  • Develop project management schedules to support the implementation of each climate project, assign and oversee interns’ tasks and projects.
• Supervise and guide interns to monitor and track sustainability data for school districts.
  • Gather and interpret data on the district’s electricity, natural gas, and other measures that are relevant to reducing greenhouse gas emissions; utilize data to create graphs, graphics, presentations, and reports that articulate recommendations on greenhouse gas reductions.

What We’re Looking For

• Demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and antiracists values and practices.
• Skilled educator with experience delivering results in workforce development; experience in green careers, climate action, environmental sustainability, or environmental justice is a plus.
• Outstanding project manager with experience planning, tracking, and reporting on the performance of multiple ongoing projects.
• Excellent data analysis skills with the ability to distill disparate and complex data sets into tangible recommendations.
• Proven ability to facilitate, manage, collaborate, and communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including students, district administrators, curriculum and instruction personnel, and facilities staff.
• Proficiency with Google Docs and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Have access to reliable transportation. 
• A college degree, coursework, or related experience in environmental fields (e.g., internships, volunteer work) is preferred.
• The ability to work onsite on a hybrid basis.
• Commitment to a fair workplace that honors the experiences, voices, viewpoints, and values of all individuals.
• Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the fellowship (SEI is unable to sponsor visas).
• May require occasional moving about to accomplish tasks, moving from one worksite to another, or adjusting or moving objects under 25-50 pounds in all directions.

• A fixed, monthly stipend of $4000.
• $1000 end-of-program financial award.​

• Climate Corps Fellows receive 20 personal days for a standard 10-month fellowship (equivalent to about 2 days per month), which may be used for vacation, holidays, or sick time. Fellowships longer than 10 months include additional days, prorated accordingly.

Climate Corps Fellowships are classified under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) as temporary, educational internships that emphasize training and career development, and thus no employment relationship exists nor compensation is required. However, while not considered traditional employment, Fellows receive a living stipend and professional development support throughout the program.
