Requirements
  • The position requires the employee to be physically located within commuting distance of Lawndale, CA, at the time of hire.
  • This is a hybrid position with the expectation of working remotely 3 days a week and traveling to school programs 2 days a week.
  • Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the fellowship (SEI is unable to sponsor visas).
  • May require occasional moving about to accomplish tasks, moving from one worksite to another, or adjusting or moving objects under 25-50 pounds in all directions.
  • Have access to reliable transportation.
  • Proficiency with Google Docs and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The ability to work onsite on a hybrid basis.

Responsibilities
  • Lead CAPS work-based learning programs for schools in Los Angeles.
  • Recruit and support the selection of high school students to participate in the program and provide orientation and ongoing training to student interns to help them build knowledge and skills necessary to develop and implement climate action projects in their school and prepare for future sustainability careers.
  • Supervise and monitor students' experiences, assess skill development, provide mentorship and support, and ensure interns’ learning and success.
  • Lead the development and implementation of school projects related to climate action, which will include, but are not limited to, building decarbonization and energy efficiency.
  • Collaborate with experts, local community stakeholders, the school’s key personnel and staff, and the school communities to gather input and data to help inform the design of each climate project, including refining and developing learning modules.
  • Develop project management schedules to support the implementation of each climate project, assign and oversee interns’ tasks and projects.
  • Supervise and guide interns to monitor and track sustainability data for school districts.
  • Gather and interpret data on the district’s electricity, natural gas, and other measures that are relevant to reducing greenhouse gas emissions; utilize data to create graphs, graphics, presentations, and reports that articulate recommendations on greenhouse gas reductions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Skilled educator with experience delivering results in workforce development; experience in green careers, climate action, environmental sustainability, or environmental justice is a plus.
  • A college degree, coursework, or related experience in environmental fields is preferred.
  • Experience teaching high school students.
  • Spanish fluency.
  • Curriculum development experience.
