Requirements
  • Strong experience of financial lines underwriting including Professional liability, Cyber and Management risks ideally
  • The ability to review wordings, lead in the complexities of drafting clauses / endorsements and tailored wordings
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Consistent record in building and developing broker relationships
  • Ability to regularly analyse competitors’ products, capabilities and appetite and share within the team
  • Ability to renew business whilst maintaining underwriting discipline
  • ACII and/or similar qualification preferred
Responsibilities
  • Handle a portfolio and risks, underwrite large and complex renewal cases within the defined underwriting authority
  • Collaborate with the Markel Claims team on claims on complex cases to ensure best outcomes for policyholders and Markel
  • Demonstrate and promote a thorough knowledge of company guidelines and authority levels in order to achieve profitability and underwriting objectives
  • Provide excellent service to our brokers, prioritising renewals and mid-term adjustments to ensure deadlines are met and maximising our business development opportunities
  • Attend underwriting and broker meetings as required throughout the year and to provide insight into developments, trends and feedback on market conditions
  • Handle renewal cases working as appropriate with the broker to secure renewal and upsell/ cross-sell additional covers
  • Build and maintain excellent working relationships with the technical department and the wider business
  • Develop team members’ technical knowledge through mentoring, day to day underwriting referrals and exposure to underwriting risks
  • Assisting the team and wider business with ad hoc projects
