Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, relevant experience, certification, or license is required.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform ophthalmic testing, measurements, and specialty-specific procedures according to training, protocols, and scope of practice.
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic studies, treatments, and procedures; explain processes and address patient questions.
  • Obtain and document patient histories, clinical findings, test results, and procedural data in the electronic medical record.
  • Operate ophthalmic instruments, imaging systems, and specialty equipment relevant to assigned clinical services.
  • Assist physicians and care teams with examinations and procedures, including pre- and post-procedure patient support.
  • Identify and communicate abnormal findings or technical issues according to established escalation protocols.
  • Prepare and maintain examination rooms, procedure areas, and equipment in compliance with safety and infection-control standards.
  • Perform refractive evaluations, including documenting medical history; testing visual, depth, and color perception; conducting retinoscopy refraction; performing tonometry and slit-lamp assessments; measuring intraocular pressure and axial length; and performing requested tests such as PAM and topography.
  • Apply eye drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate patients' eyes.
  • Educate patients about cataracts, elective cataract procedures, and pre- and post-operative instructions.
  • Collaborate with the administrative team and providers on refractive clinical flow.
  • Perform specialized imaging tests for patients.
  • Order and maintain clinical supplies.
  • Follow University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
