Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree with 10 or more years of industry experience in power electronics hardware design for defense or aerospace applications.
  • Strong working knowledge of military or Department of Defense design requirements related to environmental conditions and electronics packaging, electromagnetic interference and electromagnetic compatibility, and software.
  • Ability to develop concepts and product designs in high-current, high-power above 200 kilowatts, low-voltage, high-efficiency and high-density converter designs.
  • Ability to progress from concept to architecture to military-rated design ready for environmental qualification testing.
  • Demonstrated experience designing both alternating-current to direct-current and direct-current to direct-current converters.
  • Proficiency designing multiple conversion topologies, including flyback, forward, push-pull, buck, and boost, and ability to simulate and model designs.
  • Familiarity with electronic design automation tools.
  • Knowledge of PSPICE simulation tools.
  • Knowledge of OrCAD and Altium design tools.
  • Knowledge of developing test plans, procedures, and test solutions.
  • Understanding of magnetics, including inductor and transformer modeling, magnetization inductance, magnetization current, leakage inductance, intra-winding and inter-winding capacitance, self-resonant frequency, magnetic-core characteristics and limitations, core saturation, core loss, high-frequency losses, core reset, winding techniques for optimizing magnetics, and current-transformer design.
  • Must be a United States person as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15, including a United States citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for military-rated hardware design.
  • Lead specific product design efforts from concept to production.
  • Analyze controller and power-converter solutions for permanent-magnet electric machines.
  • Perform detailed system analyses to evaluate power semiconductor devices for target applications.
  • Define power semiconductors and optimize gate-driver and busbar designs.
  • Perform high-voltage experiments up to 1,000 volts and high-current experiments up to 1,000 amperes.
  • Validate prototype performance for product finalization.
  • Provide engineering support to production.
  • Assist in planning and testing new products for required analysis and design verification.
  • Document design reports, test results, and failure analysis.
  • Contribute to continual improvement of internal company processes.
