Requirements
  • Hold the full QFA and APA (Personal General Insurance) qualification, or an equivalent qualification enabling compliant consulting on group risk and medical benefits.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in an employee benefits, risk consulting, or brokerage environment.
  • Have deep technical knowledge of group risk benefits, including life, income protection, critical illness, and spouse pensions, as well as market review and switch processes.
  • Have experience with broking request-for-proposal processes, proposal development, fee setting, and negotiating with insurers on behalf of clients.
  • Have hands-on experience using customer relationship management and time-entry systems.
  • Demonstrate the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders, including insurers and clients.
  • Have strong project and operations management skills, with the ability to manage multiple market reviews, switches, and onboarding flows concurrently.
  • Have good numeracy and analytical skills, including comfort with profitability analysis, commission tracking, and liaison with actuarial teams.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills for client-facing work and internal reporting.
  • Have knowledge of anti-money-laundering requirements, compliance procedures, and the insurance regulatory environment in Ireland.
Responsibilities
  • Own Group Risk team operations and financial performance, meeting and ideally exceeding the annual seven-figure revenue target.
  • Maintain and update the revenue tracker.
  • Manage the renewal of annual codes and the setup of ad hoc codes.
  • Produce monthly revenue forecasts, track commission payments, and follow up with insurers regarding expected commissions and statements.
  • Approve fee budgets for market reviews based on annual profitability analysis and adjust fee levels where required.
  • Provide guidance on opportunity management using the customer relationship management system.
  • Ensure annual fee-update letters are issued each October or November and handle client queries and negotiations.
  • Assist other areas of MMB and the wider Marsh business in achieving their financial targets.
  • Maintain templates, reporting, and benchmarking databases used for client proposals, non-financial reporting, and internal metrics.
  • Identify new opportunities and manage them in the MPower customer relationship management system, allocating or supporting cases as appropriate.
  • Contribute Ireland-specific input to global request-for-proposal submissions and manage local onboarding, including introductory calls, risk-policy collection, fee proposals, BORL/statement-of-work/legal review, anti-money-laundering checks, and MPower/MercerTime setup.
  • Work closely with the Wealth Sales Leader on Master Trust bids by providing risk elements for combined request-for-proposal submissions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in other practices and geographies on whitespace cross-sell initiatives.
  • Act as the key contact for and manage market reviews and switches for strategic clients.
  • Manage Mercer’s internal risk-plan renewals and market reviews, including the Income Protection plan.
  • Manage client complaints and errors-and-omissions issues by ensuring proper logging, investigation, and satisfactory resolution.
  • Support other Mercer teams with disputed claims and coverage matters by engaging insurer contacts and advocating for clients.
  • Line-manage the Group Risk team, set goals, conduct annual performance reviews through Workday, manage workload, and provide coaching.
  • Hold fortnightly team calls for case coordination, resource planning, and morale.
  • Participate in recruitment, interview candidates, and organize training and onboarding.
  • Monitor completion of continuing professional development requirements for team members.
  • Maintain insurer relationships and act as the escalation point for complaints, disputed claims, and errors-and-omissions issues.
  • Engage with new insurer entrants and support product development and strategic positioning.
  • Manage transition planning when insurers exit, including client communications and transfers to alternative providers.
  • Support Insurer Consulting services by ensuring timely data provision and attending insurer meetings.
  • Work with Compliance on audits and update the Practice Process Manual as required.
  • Calculate and report market-review savings statistics annually.
  • Maintain and update Risk Proposal, Market Review Report, Statement of Work, and Engagement Letter Schedule templates when charge-out rates change.
  • Produce annual Risk Trends communications for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as a key resource for advisory product development, benchmarking, and actuarial pricing links.
  • Keep the client benchmarking database current to support accurate reports and advisory work.
  • Collaborate with Advisory colleagues on pricing, claims analysis, and replacement spouse-pensions opportunities.

  • Have proven experience managing a team, including performance management, coaching, and recruitment.
  • Have experience with offshoring or managed-services operations and liaising with international operations teams.
  • Have experience with actuarial or pricing teams and familiarity with benchmarking datasets.
  • Be proactive, solutions-focused, and able to drive change and continuous improvement.

US employers plan 3.2% merit pay rises for 2027 amid economic uncertainty

US employers plan to maintain moderate salary increases in 2027, according to Marsh's Mercer QuickPulse survey of 1,001 organisations. Base salary merit increases are projected at 3.2%, with total salary increases at 3.5%, marking four consecutive years of similar rates. Economic uncertainty continues influencing compensation decisions, with 57% of employers expecting at least moderate impact. High Tech (3.8%), Banking (3.7%), and Energy (3.6%) lead in merit budgets, whilst Consumer Goods (2.9%) and Healthcare (3.0%) lag behind. Employers expect to promote 8.4% of their workforce in 2027, down from 8.6% in 2026. Off-cycle salary adjustments remain common, with 64% of organisations providing them. AI adoption in compensation planning is growing, with 70% of organisations reporting some automation, primarily for market pricing recommendations and benchmarking.

Marsh beats Q1 estimates with $7.6B revenue, $3.29 EPS as organic growth hits 5%

Marsh reported Q1 revenue of $7.6 billion, up 7.6% year-over-year, beating the consensus estimate of $7.38 billion by 2.88%. Earnings per share came in at $3.29, compared to $3.06 in the prior-year quarter, surpassing the consensus estimate of $3.21 by 2.46%. Key metrics showed mixed performance against analyst expectations. Consolidated organic revenue growth of 5% exceeded the 3.5% estimate, whilst consulting organic growth of 5% topped the 4.4% forecast. However, Guy Carpenter's organic growth of 2% fell short of the 4.2% estimate. Geographically, Marsh's EMEA division generated $1.21 billion in revenue, up 14.1% year-over-year and beating estimates. Mercer consulting revenue reached $1.66 billion, an 11% increase that surpassed the $1.58 billion consensus.
