Requirements
- A High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Two years of professional driving experience using vehicles such as sedans, vans, and box trucks are required.
- One year of industry-related experience is required.
- A current driver's license and a driving record that meets OHSU's driving requirements are required.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, are required.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team with accuracy and efficiency is required.
- The ability to take initiative and complete projects independently is required.
- The ability to work effectively with diverse individuals, including volunteers, medical professionals, students, underserved populations, patients, and community partners, is required.
- The ability to operate and communicate effectively and professionally is required.
- The ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks with interruptions is required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate Casey Eye Institute mobile health units throughout Oregon.
- Conduct routine pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, including checking fluids, tires, lights, brakes, and safety equipment.
- Set up, operate, load, and unload RV equipment, including leveling jacks, generators, HVAC, and shore power.
- Follow all federal, state, and local motor vehicle operation and safety laws, as well as departmental, parking, and safety policies.
- Securely store equipment to reduce damage to equipment and the vehicle.
- Transport people, office and medical supplies and equipment, event materials, and other items.
- Maintain route timeliness and adjust routes as needed for traffic or weather conditions.
- Maintain the integrity of materials throughout the transportation chain.
- Complete daily vehicle inspections and document them as necessary.
- Report discrepancies to the appropriate coordinator or management team member.
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of vehicle interiors and exteriors.
- Install snow chains during inclement weather events when requested.
- Provide general troubleshooting assistance for the vehicle and lift.
- Ensure electrical panels and batteries are correctly powered up and down at the start and end of events.
- Manage fueling and the fuel card.
- Assist with vehicle and screening equipment setup at outreach sites.
- Set up and break down interior equipment, including ophthalmic examination equipment.
- Assist with setting up and staffing screening stations, including check-in, autorefractor and lensometer, DA, NA, refraction, technician, frames, and checkout stations.
- Represent OHSU and the outreach program professionally.
- Support volunteers and participants with clinic and program operations, supply and equipment locations, and a positive clinic experience.
- Assist participants with safely entering and exiting the mobile health unit.
- Clean mobile health unit interiors before and after events.
- Coordinate with mechanics, vendors, and vehicle and medical equipment services for repairs and upkeep of the mobile health units.
- Maintain accurate logs of vehicle usage, maintenance, repairs, and mileage.
- Monitor and maintain vehicle systems, including fuel levels, oil, coolant, and tire pressure, and promptly report issues.
- Ensure vehicles are stocked with functional and current emergency supplies, including roadside and first aid kits.
- Perform minor troubleshooting and basic maintenance tasks, such as replacing bulbs and checking fuses.
- Ensure vehicle documentation, including registration, insurance, and inspection records, is current and accessible.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of vehicle interiors and exteriors, including clinical and storage areas.
- Identify and report mechanical issues or safety concerns and facilitate timely repairs.
- Help ensure medical equipment is kept in good repair and clinic supplies are stocked in the mobile health units.
- Perform other duties assigned by program staff or the physician on site.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience driving large vehicles and/or recreational vehicles is preferred.
- Experience in community outreach or working with schools and/or health care agencies is preferred.
- Experience working with volunteers and/or in community service or engagement is preferred.
- Bilingual Spanish and English language ability is preferred.
- A Commercial Driver's License is preferred.
