Our growing company is hiring for an EHS specialist that will primarily focus on the sites Emergency Response Team (ERT). This position is accountable to the EHS&S Manager and is responsible for evaluating, implementing, and maintaining all requirements associated with ERT. The EHS Team member will spend approximately 70-80% of their time in the field interacting with both employee and contractor work groups. This position will be 60% Emergency Response Team maintenance and the remaining 40% professional safety work.
An EHS resource for plant operations will:
- Monitor programs and procedures for safety, health, and training
- Develop Health and Safety training as needed and provide to applicable employees. This would include confined space, HAZWOPER, fire extinguisher, etc.
- Maintain all ERT equipment to include testing, replacing, and ordering new equipment
- Conduct routine safety and health inspections
- Maintain safety and health recordkeeping/reports
- Assist with activities involving regulatory agencies in the areas of safety and health including inspections and audits
- Monitor emerging regulatory and industry issues that may affect facility
- Participate in project reviews and change management processes to identify EHS issues/opportunities.
Essential Skills:
- The desire to exist in a dynamic environment that has a continuous improvement focus
- Experience in Emergency Response, serving on an Emergency Response Team, and using/maintaining Emergency equipment
- Knowledgeable in health, safety, ergonomics, job safety analysis
- Experience in a chemical facility preferred
- Good functionality with PC programs including in Microsoft Office applications (Strong in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
- Must possess the highest level of integrity, honesty, and ethics. You know right from wrong and treat everyone with respect and professionalism.
- Team player: works cooperatively with others to solve problems and proactively helps others when assistance is needed.
Essential Physical Functions:
- Available to be on call as needed for Safety/Medical issues
- Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to read and understand technical information
- Must be able to climb ladders and stairs to access all areas of the plant that may require safety evaluation
- Must be able to enter confined spaces and where a respirator, SCBA pack, Level A suit, etc.
Education & Experience:
- B.S. in Safety and Health, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. Other degrees in the sciences will be considered. Prefer a minimum of 3 years work experience in Industrial Environmental Systems or related field.
- Knowledge of ISO EHS Management program to ensure compliance with Corporate and Statutory requirements including ISO 14001 and 45001 requirements.
- Knowledge of The Responsible Care Management System (RCMS)
- 3 to 5 years’ work experience in a manufacturing/industrial environmental systems or related field working with EHS compliance and management systems preferably within facility operations
