What you’ll be doing:
- Coordinate freight forwarder selection, evaluating and partnering with forwarders to align their services with company goals, cost targets, and service quality expectations.
- Oversee cost management for shipping containers and freight forwarders, analyzing rate structures, optimizing container utilization, and negotiating contracts to secure competitive pricing while maintaining service quality.
- Optimize routes for intermodal container shipments, analyzing and planning for the most efficient and cost-effective transport modes, balancing delivery times and cost efficiencies.
- Oversee transportation operations for inbound and outbound freight, ensuring timely and cost-effective logistics services that align with company objectives.
- Lead the selection and coordination of third-party logistics (3PL) providers to optimize transportation routes and methods, ensuring effective integration of their services into overall logistics operations.
- Manage escalated tracking issues, working closely with carriers to resolve delays and maintain high service levels throughout the supply chain.
- Facilitate special freight quotes for complex or high-value shipments, ensuring competitive rates and alignment with budget targets while selecting the most suitable carriers.
- Leverage knowledge of NMFC (National Motor Freight Classification) and freight classes to accurately categorize shipments, ensure proper freight classifications, and optimize shipping costs.
What we value in this role:
- Experience within domestic or international freight and logistics.
- Purchasing background or proven ability to negotiate.
- Understands how to evaluate international tariff codes or domestic NMFC or class ratings.
- Organized and skilled communicator.
- Able to quickly respond and summarize critical issues related to freight and business impact via email and in person communication.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
