Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for management of day-to-day management of the health & safety issues within the plant and WSIB Claims.
• Coordinate and chair the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
• Implement and oversee safety programs.
• Identification of hazardous conditions and practices, including Lockout/Tagout procedures, risk assessments and development of recommendations.
• Ensuring the quality of accident investigations and the completion of documentation.
• Arrange and coordinate Return-to-Work and modified duties for employees.
• Maintain/update Job Safety Analysis and preparation of safe work practices.
• Provide support, advice, and guidance with respect to all health and safety activities.
• Produce reports and statistical information as required.
• Work closely with management to ensure all Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to as required by legislation.
• Partner with Maintenance to submit work orders to address H&S concerns in working areas and on equipment.
• Daily walks through the Production Plant, etc. for inspections of all work areas.
• Research, review, and partner with external vendors for OH&S initiatives
• Investigate and address employee health and safety concerns.
• Participate in Health and Safety orientation training of newly hired employees.
• Ensure Health and Safety inspections are completed and filed properly (hot work permits, fall arrest equipment inspections, etc.).
• Monthly inspection of Health and Safety equipment (fire extinguishers, first aid kits, spill response kits, etc.)
• Act as the main contact for after hours emergencies when required. Provide advice and direction to onsite team via telephone and/or email. 

Skills and Abilities:

• Comprehensive knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, Building Code and Workplace Safety Insurance Act.
• Training in hazard recognition, assessment, and control.
• Knowledge and experience with implementation of Return to Work and modified work programs.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with management personnel in a collaborative environment.
• Self starting, proactive individual who can work well independently and in a team environment.
• Transparency in dealing with others, high level of integrity and work ethic.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel).
• Excellent analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in an accredited Occupational Health and Safety certification program or similar.

Experience:

• Minimum 3+ years’ experience in the administration of policies and legislative compliance in similar role.
• Experience in similar role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
