Requirements
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program modified for lineperson is required.
  • A minimum of four years spent primarily in the aerial line and underground power construction field is required.
  • The candidate must understand general line construction standards and procedures for primary and secondary installations.
  • The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in safely operating line and bucket trucks, trenchers, and backhoes.
  • The candidate must maintain a current CPR card.
  • The candidate must understand distribution-system operation and troubleshooting procedures.
  • The candidate must know various types of dielectric insulating fluids.
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to use basic electrical measuring and testing equipment, including meggers, voltmeters, ammeters, and ohmmeters.
  • The candidate must understand the characteristics and correct installation procedures for high-voltage cable, including terminating and splicing.
  • The candidate must be able to size, install, and connect single-phase and three-phase transformers using standard connections.
  • The candidate must be able to properly lay out and administer small jobs normally involving one to three people.
  • The candidate must have a good working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and National Electrical Safety Code.
  • The candidate must maintain a valid Class A commercial driver's license and a history of safe driving.
  • The candidate must have reliable personal transportation to and from the assigned work location or office.
  • The candidate must purchase required personal tools and maintain them in good condition.
  • The candidate must be willing to travel nationally to job sites.
  • The candidate must be willing to stay away at job sites for up to two weeks when needed.
  • The candidate must be able to operate a computer or tablet to enter information into Tri-M's ProNav system.
  • The candidate must be able to work 40 hours per week in scheduled eight- to ten-hour shifts and meet the listed physical, visual, balance, environmental, and safety requirements.
Responsibilities
  • The Lineperson performs tasks related to installing aerial and underground line construction, outdoor lighting systems, and switchgear.
  • The Lineperson follows and understands proper safety and temporary grounding procedures.
  • The Lineperson reads and interprets outdoor electrical distribution system drawings.
  • The Lineperson performs layout and supervision of small line construction projects.
  • The Lineperson operates equipment including bucket trucks, line digger derrick trucks, trenchers, and backhoes.
  • The Lineperson installs power poles and guys with related crossarms, insulators, and hardware.
  • The Lineperson performs basic rigging for installing switchgear, transformers, steel structures, and related equipment.
  • The Lineperson erects steel substation structures in accordance with erection drawings.
  • The Lineperson strings aerial conductors with proper sags and tensions.
  • The Lineperson performs work on energized circuits up to 15,000 volts.
  • The Lineperson installs aerial and pad-mounted transformers and related switchgear.
  • The Lineperson installs and terminates primary cables rated 5 kilovolts and above.
  • The Lineperson makes correct transformer connections.
  • The Lineperson installs substation ground-grid systems.
  • The Lineperson performs layout and supervision of duct banks and cable installations.
  • The Lineperson installs outdoor lighting systems.
  • The Lineperson ensures compliance with the National Electrical Code and National Electrical Safety Code.
  • The Lineperson ensures that quality and productivity meet company and customer standards.

Penn College graduates begin on-the-job training with Tri-M. Thursday, July 23, 2026 Four recent Penn College graduates have signed offer letters to become apprentices with Tri-M Group LLC. Four Pennsylvania College of Technology graduates have signed offer letters to join The Tri-M Group LLC as apprentices. Over the next four years, the students will continue their education while completing 8,000 hours of on-the-job training to earn their journeyperson credentials. The employee-owned company provides electrical construction, building automation, high voltage, security and networking solutions. Tri-M, which is part of the Penn College Corporate Tomorrow Makers program, has welcomed multiple Penn College students and graduates at its three Pennsylvania locations in Kennett Square, the Lehigh Valley and Lock Haven. The interns and apprentices are now supporting the company's electrical construction, business automation services, electrical service, network service and building automation systems startup divisions. Members of the latest cohort of apprentices are Caden I. Lantz, of Williamsport, a 2025 mechatronics technology graduate and 2026 building automation engineering technology graduate, and Owen J. Mulhern, of Havertown, Nick D. Laude, of Hallstead, and Krew G. Baur, of West Chester, all 2026 electrical construction graduates.
