Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Certification from the state of South Carolina as a Nursing Assistant, EMT or Certified Phlebotomist
  • Minimum of one year of patient care experience in a health care facility
  • Nursing student enrolled in an accredited institution with the completion of one Adult Medical/Surgical course with hands on clinical experience
  • Ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of therapeutic procedures
  • Ability to make accurate physical observation of patients
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Basic computer skills
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Successful completion of the on-line course modules, phlebotomy training and skills validation for basic and advanced skills, TACT training, and EKG training within three months of hire
  • Maintain MUSC Hazmat and TACT trainings
  • Successful completion of the Emergency Department Technician unit specific training and competency demonstration within the first six months of employment
Responsibilities
  • Perform multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care
  • Achieve desired outcomes under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse
  • Work irregular hours under stressful conditions, rotating shifts, holidays and weekends
  • Abide by MUHA policies to avoid disciplinary action, including termination
