Requirements
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Possession of an appropriate and valid certificate of Expanded Function Dental Assistant, including a certification of radiologic proficiency issued by the Oregon State Board of Dental Examiners (a graduate from an accredited dental assistant program)
  • BLS CPR Certification or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Successful completion of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association is a prerequisite for performing the application of pit and fissure sealants. Successful completion of courses of instruction required prior to certification.
  • Background investigation may include fingerprinting; employment is contingent on passing a background investigation.
Responsibilities
  • Provides direct clinical assistance and support to Dentists and Dental Hygienists.
  • Performs all aspects of 4 handed dentistry using effective and efficient techniques; mixes materials; places rubber dam, takes study models impressions.
  • Anticipates provider needs during treatment. Keeps the provider informed of all schedule changes and unfilled appointments. Triages emergency patients, makes providers aware of clients needs.
  • Performs Dental Assisting and expanded functions including rubber cup prophylaxis, applying sealants, polishing amalgams, placing/removing matrix retainers, removes excess cement and placing temporary restorations.
  • Sets up and disinfects operatories following the proper procedures ensuring all instruments and supplies are available for patient care.
  • Reports necessary repair needs, observes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines and monitors supply (Inventory) levels.
  • Interacts with patients in a respectful and courteous manner. Proactively monitors client wait times and ensures patients are kept informed of schedule delays.
  • Conducts phone follow-up and documentation for missed patient appointments. Acts as liaison with treatment staff and providers.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of responsible dental assistant experience or a graduate from an accredited dental assistant program
