EDF Trading is an asset-backed trader in wholesale energy markets, handling power, natural gas, oil, LPG, and environmental products, with a strong LNG position through a partnership with JERA Global Markets. It structures and negotiates large, international energy transactions for EDF Group customers and other clients, across Europe, North America, and Asia. The company’s products rely on backing trades with physical assets and offering risk-management solutions to manage price and supply risks in the energy sector. Compared with competitors, EDF Trading emphasizes its asset-backed trading model, its global footprint, and its integrated risk-management capabilities, including a notable LNG partnership. Its goal is to facilitate and hedge energy trades for major customers worldwide, expanding asset-backed trading activity and providing clients with practical risk-management tools.

What believers are saying

  • EDF Trading won Brüssow solar-plus-battery commercial work on 2 July 2026.
  • Environmental-products chief Thomas Schröder joined in June 2026, strengthening carbon and VCU sales.
  • EDF Trading and JERA completed LNG optimization and trading merger into JERA Global Markets.

What critics are saying

  • JERA absorbed LNG optimization and trading, shrinking EDF Trading's direct control over that profit pool.
  • Carbon markets remain regulatory-churn heavy; SunCulture's VCU deal sits inside volatile 2026 pricing.
  • EDF S.A. prioritizes core generation, starving EDF Trading of risk capital and strategic attention.

What makes EDFT unique

  • EDF Trading pairs physical assets with wholesale trading across power, gas, LNG, and carbon.
  • JERA Global Markets gives EDF Trading Asian LNG scale through a 2025 merged platform.
  • Philipp Büssenschütt became CEO on 1 January 2026, signaling continuity and renewal.
