Position Summary
The BMS Discovery Biotherapeutics group in San Diego, California, is dedicated to developing novel biotherapeutic drugs. Our goal is to create advanced biological tools and processes for the next generation of therapeutic antibodies.
We are looking for hardworking, motivated, and independent students who have completed at least 2 years of a bachelor’s degree from accredited institutions to join our part-time, paid 6-month co-op research program in antibody drug discovery. Students should attend institutions within driving distance of the La Jolla area. This role involves engineering, producing, characterizing, and testing large molecules, including the development of antibody-based therapies.
Key Responsibilities
Develop general understanding of design parameters in antibody discovery.
Work with scientists in designing and executing experiments.
Practice sterile cell culture technique and perform basic antibody expression, purification, and characterization of newly discovered antibodies.
Literature evaluation and review of relevant antibody engineering and biology.
Record experiments and data in electronic laboratory notebooks in sufficient detail and in a timely fashion.
Participate and contribute during scientific discussions.
Analyze data and present project findings at the conclusion of the program.
Qualifications & Experience
Motivated undergraduate that is eager to learn about biologics discovery and antibody engineering.
Candidate must be in enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program majoring in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related discipline.
Must have completed a minimum of 2 years of study towards a bachelor’s degree by June 2025
Candidate should have basic laboratory skills (via lab course, academic lab, or industry lab)
Candidate should have strong communication and presentation skills (written and verbal), and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.
This is a lab-based, onsite role, located at our San Diego, CA site.
The starting compensation for this job is a range from $21.00/hour-$29.00/hour. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the geographic location where work is performed. Final individual compensation is decided commensurate with demonstrated experience and education level.
