Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) is required.
  • At least 5 years of instrumentation and controls design engineering experience is required.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controller and Human-Machine Interface programming for systems with both analog and digital inputs and outputs is required.
  • United States citizenship is required due to the federal nature of the work.
  • The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a government-issued clearance, if needed.
  • Experience using the National Electrical Code, UL508A, and relevant International Society of Automation standards to design instrumentation and controls systems is required.
Responsibilities
  • Apply electrical engineering principles, theories, and concepts with an instrumentation and controls focus to equipment process control and monitoring.
  • Perform field troubleshooting of existing systems to inform corrective-action designs.
  • Prepare conduit and cable schedules, conduit and equipment plans, one-line diagrams, wiring and connection diagrams, schematic diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, sections, elevations, details, calculations, datasheets, and construction specifications.
  • Develop control cabinet assembly drawings, system diagrams, and control logic for batch and continuous processes using analog instrumentation, distributed digital control systems, and Programmable Logic Controller and Human-Machine Interface systems.
  • Develop high-quality detailed design packages.
  • Provide engineering procurement and field technical support to implement designs.
  • Provide technical expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant systems.
  • Prepare conceptual engineering deliverables, including cost-estimating bills of material and labor-hour estimates, statements of work, and design criteria.
  • Prepare title II design engineering deliverables, including calculations and analyses, construction specifications and drawings, and equipment specifications.
  • Perform walkdowns in existing plant facilities to generate design documents and provide field support to craft personnel.
  • Develop process control system narratives, assist with process software requirements, and provide input to Process and Instrumentation Diagrams.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Professional Engineer license is preferred.
  • Experience using Rockwell Automation industrial automation software, including RSLogix and FactoryTalk View, is preferred.
  • A U.S. Department of Energy Q security clearance is preferred.
