Requirements
  • The candidate must hold a current Registered Nurse license issued by the state where services will be provided or a current multistate Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Candidates may instead hold a current temporary or graduate Registered Nurse permit as permitted by the applicable state board, with a permanent Registered Nurse license obtained within the stated permit or graduation timeframe.
  • The candidate must obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of the hire date.
  • The position requires the physical strength and stamina to lift, move, stoop, reach, stand, walk, and carry materials and equipment weighing 40 or more pounds.
  • The position involves working closely with others, protracted or irregular hours, biohazards, infectious diseases, deceased persons, hands in water, and electrical hazards associated with patient-care equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide professional nursing care for inpatients using the nursing process and independent nursing judgment.
  • Provide direct patient care during the designated shift within the nursing role and scope of practice.
  • Assess patient data and identify age-specific patient-care requirements.
  • Use competent clinical practice and critical-thinking skills to deliver patient care efficiently with healthcare providers.
  • Assume responsibility, use appropriate authority, and remain accountable for patient-care delivery.
  • Implement clinical decisions and seek assistance from expert peers or management when applicable.
  • Initiate actions to correct, reduce, or prevent commonly occurring risks to patient health status.
  • Provide coordinated and comprehensive patient care through assessment, expected outcomes, nursing interventions, and evaluation within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Negotiate patient-care tasks with patients and families within safe-practice guidelines.
  • Delegate patient-care tasks to assigned personnel and follow up on task completion and patient response.
  • Evaluate patient responses to performed and delegated tasks, including Patient Profile Assessment for safe patient handling and mobility.
  • Determine and revise priorities for direct and indirect patient-care activities based on patient acuity and available resources.
  • Update the daily care plan, including appropriate algorithms for safe patient handling.
  • Use established patient-care support systems for documentation, communication, and information.
  • Apply standards of care, standards of practice, relevant scientific principles, and research findings to guide care delivery.
  • Participate in performance-improvement activities as appropriate.
  • Complete annual education related to specialty-accreditation requirements when applicable.
  • Use lift equipment and other patient-handling aids for transfers, lifts, and repositioning as indicated by the patient profile and applicable algorithms.
  • Assume responsibility for the development of others, engage in mentoring and networking, and support professional development.
  • Foster the integration of staff and students into the healthcare team and facilitate incorporation of the unit mission, values, and vision.
  • Promote trusting relationships and open, honest communication at the unit level.
  • Exchange information relevant to specific patient assignments and interact with healthcare-team members to meet patient-care needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is preferred.
